Brazil, Land of the Past scrutinizes the ideological roots of the so-called New Right in Brazil. The book traces the continuity and resilience of a system of thought based on the idea of a God-given hierarchical order to be defended against any social contract and modernizing relativization. It explains in detail how today a diverse movement — which includes actors ranging from the authoritarian Bolsonaro wing to economic liberals to the military to both Catholic and evangelical religious conservatives – assumes unanimously the ideas of this tradition as underlying premises of their political action. Though not always explicitly, this drives the self-declared “liberal-conservative” but rather anti-modernist reaction which claims to liberate an imaginary authentic “Brazil” from an aberrant “State” – and in so doing intends to preserve inherited privilege in an extremely unequal society.

Os assuntos do livro são: política, pandemia, vacina, normoses, redes sociais, uninferno feminino, educação, marketing e relação com os clientes, gentileza, amizade, ações desafirmativas do papel da mulher na sociedade, envelhecimento, sexo casual e o ridículo da importunação sexual. O livro foi escrito durante e após a pandemia e o pandemônio que assoloram o planeta e o país e conta como uma sobrevivente enfrentou e encarou isso tudo sem enlouquecer ou quase (?). Discute, também, alguns temas sobre os quais não falamos, mas eu escrevi sobre eles porque achei que ia pegar o vírus e morrer. Além de refletir sobre várias questões, você vai rir muito, pois utilizei ficção e sarcasmo para falar sobre alguns assuntos quase proibidos em algumas conversas. Não é científico nem didático, mas é necessário pensar sobre as coisas que estão escritas aqui. Acho que é sobre filosofia do cotidiano. Aviso importante antes de comprar: o livro foi escrito por mulher, fêmea, cis, branca, pobre, que pensa com a própria cabeça. Pensa bem se quer realmente ler este livro. Talvez você não dê conta de ler algumas partes.
