The practical use of such nuclear model codes requires a considerable numerical input that describes the properties of the nuclei and the interactions involved. Experts have used a variety of different methods and input data sets, often developed over many years in their own laboratories. Many of these input databases are poorly or not at all documented, and are not always available for other users. With the trend towards reduced funding for nuclear data evaluations, there is a real threat that the immense amount of accumulated knowledge of nuclear data input parameters and associated calculations may be compromised or even lost for future applications. Therefore, the IAEA has undertaken an extensive coordinated effort to develop a library of evaluated and tested nuclear-model input parameters: RIPL-2.--Publisher's description.

This study explores how Dalits in north India have used literature as a means of protest against caste oppression. Including fresh ethnographic research and interviews, it traces the trajectory of modern Dalit writing in Hindi and its pivotal role in the creation, rise and reinforcement of a distinctive Dalit identity. The book challenges the existing impression of Hindi Dalit literature as stemming from the Dalit political assertion of the 1980s and as being chiefly imitative of the Marathi Dalit literature model. Arguing that Hindi Dalit literature has a much longer history in north India, it examines two differing strands that have taken root in Dalit expression — the early ‘popular...

The Petition to Ram

Tulsi Das, a contemporary of George Herbert and Donne is best known for his Hindi version of The Ramayana, a devotional work whose popularity in northern India has earned it a reputation comparable to that of the Bible or Bhagavad Gita. The main body of the text is addressed not to the reader so much as to God or to the poet himself. It thus belongs to a special form of self-communings which developed in the vernacular lit...
