Sometimes, power is more of a curse than a blessing.Everything changed the day I met the Patton triplets. And not just because they're Alts- a group of children born to test subjects of a drug trial gone wrong. It also changed because together, we found love.We also found the truth. I'm an Alt, too. With the threat of exposure hanging over my head, I had no choice but to become a test subject for Dr. Earl Patton. He turned me into scientific experiment, forced to perform like a circus monkey and donate tubes of blood weekly. I performed without complaint...for the most part. I was, after all, still me. After a visit to The Divine Church of Purity, a cult-like religious group that had one purpose: rid the world of Alts, the web of secrets and lies surrounding the good doctor began to unravel. He wanted to use me, and Jett, Wyatt, Beckett and I needed to find a way to stop him.No cost was too great. I would go as far as it took to protect my family and my boys, even if it meant protecting them from me.Recommended for ages 16+ for mature content.

The Dementia Diaries of My Beautiful Mom, Nellie May, Born in April

The true happenings of the time in the life of Nellie May born in April. A little joke we shared with Nellie regarding when she was born. Nellie did not have a happy childhood with a dad who beat her, she went through traumatic times when she had to go in the air raid shelter during the war when she was growing up. She went to a comprehensive school and started work at the age of 14. When Nellie was in her fifties, she liked to have a drink. I remember one day a taxi driver came to our house and asked if Nellie was at home I said no, he said I think I have her in my car (and he had). Looking back, we had some very funny times. Nellie was the life and soul of the party. She was feisty, head strong, not afraid to speak her mind, funny, loving, caring and beautiful she would do anything for anyone. She loved to dance and sing and play the organ. Nellie was in her eighties when she developed the terrible disease dementia, of which these diaries are about to tell. There were sad times but also some happy times. Nellie would always pronounce the word baby as babby as that is how she would say it. These diaries tell of what happened during her time with dementia.

Goldie Hawn's life is an ongoing tableau of stories, and she has the knack of one born to tell them. In this candid and insightful book, she invites us to join her in a look back at the people, places and events that have touched her. With her trademark effervescent humour and generosity, Goldie shares the lessons she's learned and the wisdom she feels she's been given in the hope of giving something back. Far from just a Hollywood 'tell-all," this is a very personal look at moments both private and powerful: the delight in her father's spirited spontaneity; the confidence instilled by her mother; the unexpected gifts of comfort from strangers many miles from home; and the joy of being a dau...

Ethics and Affects in the Fiction of Alice Munro explores the representation of embodied ethics and affects in Alice Munro’s writing. The collection illustrates how Munro’s short stories powerfully intersect with important theoretical trends in literary studies, including affect studies, ethical criticism, age studies, disability studies, animal studies, and posthumanism. These essays offer us an Alice Munro who is not the kindly Canadian icon reinforcing small-town verities who was celebrated and perpetuated in acts of national pedagogy with her Nobel Prize win; they ponder, instead, an edgier, messier Munro whose fictions of affective and ethical perplexities disturb rather than comfort. In Munro’s fiction, unruly embodiments and affects interfere with normative identity and humanist conventions of the human based on reason and rationality, destabilizing prevailing gender and sexual politics, ethical responsibilities, and affective economies. As these essays make clear, Munro’s fiction reminds us of the consequences of everyday affects and the extraordinary ordinariness of the ethical encounters we engage again and again.
