Germans and Poles in the Middle Ages
This volume examines mutual ethnic and national perceptions and stereotypes in the Middle Ages by analysing a range of narrative historical sources, such as chronicles, hagiography, and literary material, with a particular focus on the mutual history of Germany and Poland. What sorts of stereotypes and prejudices existed in the Middle Ages, and how widespread were they? Or what other types of differentiating features were considered, and why? The majority of the contributions clearly shows that medieval authors in general displayed only limited interest in the activities of neighbouring lands, and only then when it concerned their own interests – such as matters of conflict, diplomacy, or marriage – while criticism usually focused on individuals, rather than being generalised to bordering regions as a whole. Neuropathology and Genetics of Dementia
This volume is the proceedings from the Swiss Society for Neuropathology XVIIIth International Winter Meeting, held March 23-26, 2000, in St. Moritz, Switzerland. For more than 35 years the Swiss Society of Neuropathology has organised its traditional International Winter Meeting, whose main aim is to bring together neuropathologists and clinicians as well as neuroscientists interested in disease mechanisms. The topic of the 2000 Meeting was Neuropathology and Genetics of Dementia. A programme of invited plenary lectures of high educational value as well as platform and poster presentations given by many participants covered the broad spectrum of dementing disorders. Encouraged by the high standard of the meeting, and probably also influenced by the advent of a new Millennium, it was decided to publish the Proceedings of the 2000 Meeting in the present book.

The Yale Swallow Protocol
The Yale Swallow Protocol is an evidence-based protocol that is the only screening instrument that both identifies aspiration risk and, when passed, is able to recommend specific oral diets without the need for further instrumental dysphagia testing. Based upon research by Drs. Steven B. Leder and Debra M. Suiter, an easily administered, reliable and validated swallow screening protocol was developed and can be used by speech-language pathologists, nurses, otolaryngologists, oncologists, neurologists, intensivists and physicians assistants. In addition, the protocol can be used in a variety of environments, including acute care, rehabilitation and nursing homes. The Yale Swallow Protocol meets all of the criteria necessary for a successful screening test, including being simple to administer, cross-disciplinary, cost effective, acceptable to patients and able to identify the target attribute by giving a positive finding when aspiration risk is present and a negative finding when aspiration risk is absent. Additionally, early and accurate identification of aspiration risk can significantly reduce health-care costs associated with recognized prandial aspiration.
