This compilation provides some updates in the field of neuroscience research. Chapter One collects up-to-date research on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and elucidates the temporal development of this disorder. Chapter Two explains the role of lipid peroxidation in the development of hydrocephalic astrogliosis. Chapter Three is devoted to the effect of pyrimidine derivatives on changes in mitochondrial function in rats under conditions of permanent cerebral ischemia. Chapter Four investigates the relationship between PTSD and the brain's spatio-temporal dynamics through an experimental study on mice. Chapter Five provides an overview on studies to treat social cognition disturbances in mental disorders such as schizophrenia with transcranial direct current stimulation and discusses its neurobiological mechanisms. Finally, Chapter Six deals with the role of nucleosome ensembles in the control of the visual apparatus as a neuro controller in the operative work of the brain as a whole.
The authors' of this book discuss the most recent advances in neuroscience research. The chapters include updated information on clinical and technical implementation of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in stroke imaging; association between word display and executive functioning; the connectivity between the cerebellum and inferior frontal gyrus (IFG); the identification and validation of EEG, MRI and SPECT biomarkers for diagnosing, monitoring progression and predicting the onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD); an examination of the leptin receptor, a drive of adult neurogenesis that may treat Alzheimer's disease; the language of neurons and their clinical applications such as in deep brain stimulation; the use of folic acid and its intake by pregnant women to support both physiological changes in the mother and the optimal growth and development of the fetus and offspring; examples of the continuum of shapes and sizes of different dendritic spines, from simple to complex, observed in the human brain; an examination of spastic diplegia, the most common form of cerebral palsy; and the identification of new mechanisms of pharmacological effects of certain neurotropic peptides.
THE DEFINING WORK IN NEUROSURGERY, REISSUED FOR A NEW GENERATION OF TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE Cranial Anatomy and Surgical Approaches is the master work of the legendary neurosurgeon Albert L. Rhoton, Jr. -- a distillation of 40 years of work to improve safety, accuracy, and gentleness in the medical specialty the author helped shape. Newly reissued and featuring more than 2000 full-color illustrations, this definitive text on the microsurgical anatomy of the brain remains an essential tool for the education and enrichment of neurosurgeons at any career stage. It fulfils its author's hopes to make, in his words, the "delicate, fateful, and awesome" procedures of neurosurgery more gentle, accurate...
In the last ten years the pediatric neurosurgeon has witnessed a real revolution in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric hydrocephalus, the most frequently encountered condition in everyday clinical practice. The evolution of MRI and the advent of neuroendoscopic surgery have resuscitated the interest in the classification, etiology and pathophysiology of hydrocephalus. The book offers an updated overview on the recent progress in this field, and a new approach to hydrocephalus: the reader will find in it a modern and new presentation of an old disease, where genetics, endoscopy, cost-effectiveness analyses and many other aspects of the various therapies are extensively discussed. The volume will be useful not only for neurosurgeons, but for all specialists interested in the various aspects of hydrocephalus: pediatricians, radiologists, endocrinologists, pathologists and geneticists.

Rapid advances in MRI are transforming the treatment of patients suffering from the craniocervical syndrome (CCS). Articles in this publication have been written by leading international experts in the field to provide practitioners with a better understanding of the subtle anatomy and MRI appearances at the craniocervical junction, along with insight into the clinical significance of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow measurements and their relationship to posture. The surgical management of patients with damage to the ligaments at the craniocervical junction and the role of cervical spinal trauma in neurodegenerative diseases as well as CSF flow obstruction are also discussed. This publication is valuable reading for practitioners in the fields of radiology, neurosurgery, neurology, pain management, orthopaedic surgery as well as for chiropractors and osteopaths.
The most frequently asked questions that confront the fetal medicine trainee/expert on a daily basis are “Is the finding real or merely an artifact?” and “Is the diagnosis correct?”. However, to be able to find the description of an abnormal ultrasound finding in a textbook, one generally has to search by the definite diagnosis, which has not been done as yet. This uneasy feeling was the first factor that directed the layout of Ultrasound of Congenital Fetal Anomalies: Differential Diagnosis and Prognostic Indicators, Second Edition. Copiously illustrated, the book displays fetal anomalies by scanning view and descriptions of all major ultrasound planes, detailing what can be conside...
