Willi Baumeister (1889-1955) is one ofe Modernism ́s most significant artists. A central theme in his work was the search for universal reference points and the sources of artistic creation.
Over the course of a long and storied career, Willi Baumeister (1889-1955) created stage designs and costumes for many plays. Now, for the first time, his writings on the theatre have been compiled and published in this first volume from Archiv Baumeister im Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. Filled with insightful essays and vibrant illustrations, this book will give readers a vivid picture of his work for the theatre.
The original edition of this ambitious reference was published in hardcover in 1998, in two oversize volumes (10x13"). This edition combines the two volumes into one; it's paperbound ("flexi-cover"--the paper has a plastic coating), smaller (8x10", and affordable for art book buyers with shallower pockets--none of whom should pass it by. The scope is encyclopedic: half the work (originally the first volume) is devoted to painting; the other half to sculpture, new media, and photography. Chapters are arranged thematically, and each page displays several examples (in color) of work under discussion. The final section, a lexicon of artists, includes a small bandw photo of each artist, as well as biographical information and details of work, writings, and exhibitions. Ruhrberg and the three other authors are veteran art historians, curators, and writers, as is editor Walther. c. Book News Inc.
An important theory about abstract art, published 1947 in postwar Germany, now translated.
This book provides an overview of twentieth-century German art, focusing on some of the period's key works. In Peter Chametzky's innovative approach, these works become representatives rather than representations of twentieth-century history. Chametzky draws on both scholarly and popular sources to demonstrate how the works (and in some cases, the artists themselves) interacted with, and even enacted, historical events, processes, and ideas.--[book jacket].
The artistic work of Willi Baumeister (1889-1955), one of the pioneers of abstract painting, is perfectly documented with the exception of his sketch books. He left 47 of them with 490 sketches, drawn between 1913 and 1955. During the last years the interest in sketchbooks became more and more important, thus opening a new form in the general view on an artist and his creative kind of working. For many of his worldwide renowned works we find here first traces and the steps to a final masterwork. This catalog presents all of his sketches, compared and analyzed in a chronological and content context.
One girl, one painting a day...can she do it? Linda Patricia Cleary decided to challenge herself with a year long project starting on January 1, 2014.
