Services for Aging Persons in China

This volume draws upon one of the first comprehensive studies on the regional variations of services for aging persons in China to provide an empirical and theoretical understanding of the impact of China's rapidly growing aging population on the country's socioeconomic, cultural, and political systems. In three parts, the manuscript combines case-oriented comparative methods with variable-oriented statistical and GIS analyses to examine the spatial patterns and relationships between supply and demand of affordable and accessible services for aging persons in China. Part one gives a historical review of population aging in China, including the development of services for aging persons and go...

Presenting theory while using Mathematica in a complementary way, Modern Differential Geometry of Curves and Surfaces with Mathematica, the third edition of Alfred Gray’s famous textbook, covers how to define and compute standard geometric functions using Mathematica for constructing new curves and surfaces from existing ones. Since Gray’s death, authors Abbena and Salamon have stepped in to bring the book up to date. While maintaining Gray's intuitive approach, they reorganized the material to provide a clearer division between the text and the Mathematica code and added a Mathematica notebook as an appendix to each chapter. They also address important new topics, such as quaternions. T...

Recent Advances in Computational Sciences

This book presents state-of-the-art lectures delivered by international academic and industrial experts in the field of computational science and its education, covering a wide spectrum from theory to practice. Topics include new developments in finite element method (FEM), finite volume method and Spline theory, such as Moving Mesh Methods, Galerkin and Discontinuous Galerkin Schemes, Shape Gradient Methods, Mixed FEMs, Superconvergence techniques and Fourier spectral approximations with applications in multidimensional fluid dynamics; Maxwell equations in discrepancy media; and phase-field equations. It also discusses some interesting topics related to Stokes equations, Schr”dinger equations, wavelet analysis and approximation theory. Contemporary teaching issues in curriculum reform also form an integral part of the book. This book will therefore be of significant interest and value to all graduates, research scientists and practitioners facing complex computational problems. Administrators and policymakers will find it is an addition to their mathematics curriculum reform libraries.

Surface Engineering of Graphene and Graphene Quantum Dots for Industrial and Medical Applications

This book explores the synthesis, characterization, and applications of graphene and its derivatives. It covers advancements in improving graphene quality, surface engineering methods, and increasing material functionality. The topics covered include functionalized graphene, graphene quantum dots, novel device fabrication approaches, and diverse applications. The book also investigates the fundamental principles of characterizing graphene and its derivatives, along with electronic structures, theoretical investigations, and computational analyses relevant to their applications, synthesis, and properties. The chapters are organized to cover these topics, starting with a general overview of surface chemistry and its concepts for surface engineering of graphene, the fundamental properties of graphene and its derivatives, their synthesis, and applications in numerous fields, and concludes with a future perspective. Significantly, for the first time, both industrial and medical applications are gathered in one book, enabling us to discuss the confrontation of medical and industrial applications of graphene and graphene quantum dots.

Examine China's impact on the world tourism market! Tourism in China is a comprehensive study of tourism and the travel industry in China--past, present, and future. Since joining many of its Asia-Pacific neighbors in identifying tourism as a vehicle for socioeconomic growth and poverty alleviation, China has become the leader in the Asian travel industry, surpassing all forecasts with high and constant growth in international and domestic tourism activity. In fact, the World Trade Organization predicts that by 2020, China will become the world's leading tourism destination, receiving 145 million visitors. This timely book examines the diverse opportunities and challenges the country's touri...

Analysis of Divergence

The 7th International Workshop in Analysis and its Applications (IWAA) was held at the University of Maine, June 1-6, 1997 and featured approxi mately 60 mathematicians. The principal theme of the workshop shares the title of this volume and the latter is a direct outgrowth of the workshop. IWAA was founded in 1984 by Professor Caslav V. Stanojevic. The first meeting was held in the resort complex Kupuri, Yugoslavia, June 1-10, 1986, with two pilot meetings preceding. The Organization Committee to gether with the Advisory Committee (R. P. Boas, R. R. Goldberg, J. P. Kahne) set forward the format and content of future meetings. A certain number of papers were presented that later appeared ind...

Theoretically, multiwavelets hold significant advantages over standard wavelets, particularly for solving more complicated problems, and hence are of great interest. Meeting the needs of engineers and mathematicians, this book provides a comprehensive overview of multiwavelets. The author presents the theory of wavelets from the viewpoint of genera

This book treats the Atiyah-Singer index theorem using the heat equation, which gives a local formula for the index of any elliptic complex. Heat equation methods are also used to discuss Lefschetz fixed point formulas, the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for a manifold with smooth boundary, and the geometrical theorem for a manifold with smooth boundary. The author uses invariance theory to identify the integrand of the index theorem for classical elliptic complexes with the invariants of the heat equation.
