Gendered Memories

Gendered Memories: An Imaginary Museum for Ding Ling and Chinese Female Revolutionary Martyrs takes readers on a journey through the lives and legacies of Chinese female revolutionary martyrs, revealing how their sacrifices have been remembered, commemorated, and manipulated throughout history. This innovative book blends historical narratives with personal narratives, creating an “imaginary museum” where the stories of these women are brought to life. Author Xian Wang employs this imaginary museum to create a conceptual space mirroring an actual museum that juxtaposes historical narratives with countermemories of Chinese female revolutionaries, such as the prominent writer Ding Ling. ROMANSY 23 - Robot Design, Dynamics and Control

This book highlights the latest innovations and applications in robotics, as presented by leading international researchers and engineers at the ROMANSY 2020, the 23rd CISM IFToMM Symposium on Theory and Practice of Robots and Manipulators. The ROMANSY symposium is the first established conference that focuses on robotics theory and research, rather than industrial aspects. Bringing together researchers from a broad range of countries, the symposium is held bi-annually and plays a vital role in the development of the theory and practice of robotics, as well as the mechanical sciences. ROMANSY 2020 marks the 23rd installment in a series that began in 1973. The event was also the first topic-specific conference of the IFToMM, though not exclusively intended for the IFToMM community.

Disarming the Allies of Imperialism

This study provides a striking new explanation of how China's Nationalist Party (GMD) defeated its rivals in the revolution of 1922–1929 and helped bring some degree of unification to a country torn by class, regional, and ideological interests. Disarming the Allies of Imperialism argues that inconsistency—more than culture, ideology, or any other factor—gave nationalism its unique edge. Revolutionary leaders manipulated revolutionaries and non-revolutionaries alike to advantage their own positions and seize national power, sometimes seeking to protect foreign lives and property and shield Chinese merchants from agitative disruptions, sometimes voting to do the opposite. Exploiting the...

The Scholar's Mind

Professor Frederick W. Mote (1922–2006) has been widely recognized as a key figure in the field of Sinology. He taught at Princeton University for thirty-one years and was a founder of both Princeton's Department of East Asian Studies and its re-markable Gest (East Asian) Library. His distinguished record of scholarly publication includes the co-editing, with Professor Denis C. Twitchett, of volumes seven and eight of the Cambridge History of China. Although he is perhaps best known for his studies of the Ming dynasty, his special erudition, as demonstrated in his final book, Imperial China, 900-1800, spans the Song through Qing periods. Generations of his students and colleagues have admired him not only for his learning but for his generosity in sharing his broad understanding of China. This wide-ranging collection includes papers by David A. Sensabaugh, Geoff Wade, Hok-lam Chan, Tai-loi Ma, Martin Hei-jdra, Chen-main Wang, Thomas Bartlett, Paul R. Katz, Alfreda Murck and Perry Link. Its publication stands not only as a tribute to Professor Mote but as a major contribution to the field of Sinology.

Quality Assessment of Chinese Preschools

This book presents the development of the Chinese Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (CECERS), a culturally appropriate tool for assessing the quality of Chinese preschools. It provides insights into the developmental profile and pedagogical characteristics of Chinese preschools, which have been the main type of children's services in China over the past three decades. The conceptual framework of CECERS is based on cultural contexts and refers to ECERS, an international quality assessment tool for early childhood education (ECE), and combines the essential elements of ECE quality (e.g., teacher-child interactions) with additional components tailored to the situation of Chinese preschoo...
