Computer Simulation

The first chapter provides an overview of the development of a novel agent-based simulation model of socio-environmental innovation diffusion. The second chapter shows the study about rendering of colours with three rendering engines. The third and fourth chapters are devoted to modelling clothes at different levels. The fifth chapter describes the modelling of computer simulation in the optimization of bioprocess technology. Chapters 6 and 7 formulate a physical model of deformation of steel and idea of constructing a scientific workshop focused on high-temperature processes. Chapter 8 formulates surrogate models. Chapter 9 shows computer simulation of high-frequency electromagnetic fields. Chapter 10 proposes the modelling of the task allocation problem by the use of Petri Nets. Chapter 11 presents various scenarios whose ranking is done according to defined criteria and weight coefficients.

The book Eco-Restoration of the Polluted Environment: A Biological Perspective explores recent advances in biological strategies for the remediation of polluted environments, including soil, water, and air. It covers bioremediation of heavy metals, radioactive waste, and waste gases, which are believed to be bottleneck problems for researchers working in this field. The book contains separate chapters on genetic engineering technology for enhancement of the bioremediation potential of bioresources and the role of biosurfactants, enzymes, and exo-polysaccharides for bioremediation of polluted environments, along with basic aspects of eco-restoration by microorganisms. It summarizes the signif...

Modeling, Programming and Simulations Using LabVIEWTM Software

Born originally as a software for instrumentation control, LabVIEW became quickly a very powerful programming language, having some peculiar characteristics which made it unique: the simplicity in creating very effective Users Interfaces and the G programming mode. While the former allows designing very professional controls panels and whole Applications, completed with features for distributing and installing them, the latter represents an innovative and enthusiastic way of programming: the Graphical representation of the code. The surprising aspect is that such a way of conceiving algorithms is absolutely similar to the SADT method (Structured Analysis and Design Technique) introduced by D...

How the planet's two largest greenhouse gas emitters navigate climate policy. The United States and China together account for a disproportionate 45 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions. In 2014, then-President Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping announced complementary efforts to limit emissions, paving the way for the Paris Agreement. And yet, with President Trump's planned withdrawal from the Paris accords and Xi's consolidation of power—as well as mutual mistrust fueled by misunderstanding—the climate future is uncertain. In Titans of the Climate, Kelly Sims Gallagher and Xiaowei Xuan examine how the planet's two largest greenhouse gas emitters develop and implement climate ...

Reading Tolkien in Chinese

Approaching translations of Tolkien's works as stories in their own right, this book reads multiple Chinese translations of Tolkien's writing to uncover the new and unique perspectives that enrich the meaning of the original texts. Exploring translations of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, The Children of Hurin and The Unfinished Tales, Eric Reinders reveals the mechanics of meaning by literally back-translating the Chinese into English to dig into the conceptual common grounds shared by religion, fantasy and translation, namely the suspension of disbelief, and questions of truth - literal, allegorical and existential. With coverage of themes such as gods and heathens, el...

U.S. Army Campaigns of the Civil War: The Civil War in the West, 1863

The Civil War in the West, 1863, by Andrew N. Morris, is the latest addition to the Center of Military History's U.S. Army Campaigns of the Civil War series. In 1863, Union and Confederate forces fought for control of Chattanooga, a key rail center. The Confederates were victorious at nearby Chickamauga in September. However, renewed fighting in Chattanooga that November provided Union troops a victory, control of the city, and drove the Confederates south into Georgia. The Union success left its armies poised to invade the Deep South the following year.
