Edited in collaboration with the Grassmann Research Group, this book contains many important articles delivered at the ICM 2014 Satellite Conference and the 18th International Workshop on Real and Complex Submanifolds, which was held at the National Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Daejeon, Republic of Korea, August 10–12, 2014. The book covers various aspects of differential geometry focused on submanifolds, symmetric spaces, Riemannian and Lorentzian manifolds, and Kähler and Grassmann manifolds.
Integral geometry, known as geometric probability in the past, originated from Buffon's needle experiment. Remarkable advances have been made in several areas that involve the theory of convex bodies. This volume brings together contributions by leading international researchers in integral geometry, convex geometry, complex geometry, probability, statistics, and other convexity related branches. The articles cover both recent results and exciting directions for future research.
This book presents the proceedings of the 20th International Workshop on Hermitian Symmetric Spaces and Submanifolds, which was held at the Kyungpook National University from June 21 to 25, 2016. The Workshop was supported by the Research Institute of Real and Complex Manifolds (RIRCM) and the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF). The Organizing Committee invited 30 active geometers of differential geometry and related fields from all around the globe to discuss new developments for research in the area. These proceedings provide a detailed overview of recent topics in the field of real and complex submanifolds.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Conference on Geometric Science of Information, GSI 2013, held in Paris, France, in August 2013. The nearly 100 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions and are organized into the following thematic sessions: Geometric Statistics on Manifolds and Lie Groups, Deformations in Shape Spaces, Differential Geometry in Signal Processing, Relational Metric, Discrete Metric Spaces, Computational Information Geometry, Hessian Information Geometry I and II, Computational Aspects of Information Geometry in Statistics, Optimization on Matrix Manifolds, Optimal Transport Theory, Probability on Manifolds, Divergence Geometry and Ancillarity, Entropic Geometry, Tensor-Valued Mathematical Morphology, Machine/Manifold/Topology Learning, Geometry of Audio Processing, Geometry of Inverse Problems, Algebraic/Infinite dimensional/Banach Information Manifolds, Information Geometry Manifolds, and Algorithms on Manifolds.
This monograph contains papers that were delivered at the special session on Geometric Potential Analysis, that was part of the Mathematical Congress of the Americas 2021, virtually held in Buenos Aires. The papers, that were contributed by renowned specialists worldwide, cover important aspects of current research in geometrical potential analysis and its applications to partial differential equations and mathematical physics.
First published in 1997, this book contains six in-depth articles on various aspects of the field of tight and taut submanifolds and concludes with an extensive bibliography of the entire field. The book is dedicated to the memory of Nicolaas H. Kuiper; the first paper is an unfinished but insightful survey of the field of tight immersions and maps written by Kuiper himself. Other papers by leading researchers in the field treat topics such as the smooth and polyhedral portions of the theory of tight immersions, taut, Dupin and isoparametric submanifolds of Euclidean space, taut submanifolds of arbitrary complete Riemannian manifolds, and real hypersurfaces in complex space forms with special curvature properties. Taken together these articles provide a comprehensive survey of the field and point toward several directions for future research.
This volume contains a valuable collection of research articles by active and well-known mathematicians in differential geometry and mathematical physics, contributed to mark Professor Kouei Sekigawa's 60th birthday. The papers feature many new and significant results while also reviewing developments in the field. The illustrious career of Professor Sekigawa and his encounters with friends in mathematics is a special highlight of the volume.
This exposition provides the state-of-the art on the differential geometry of hypersurfaces in real, complex, and quaternionic space forms. Special emphasis is placed on isoparametric and Dupin hypersurfaces in real space forms as well as Hopf hypersurfaces in complex space forms. The book is accessible to a reader who has completed a one-year graduate course in differential geometry. The text, including open problems and an extensive list of references, is an excellent resource for researchers in this area. Geometry of Hypersurfaces begins with the basic theory of submanifolds in real space forms. Topics include shape operators, principal curvatures and foliations, tubes and parallel hypers...
