Focusing on the theory and state-of-the-art technologies of ultrasonic testing (UT), this book examines ultrasonic propagation in solids and its detection applications, and explores the intersection of UT technology with various fields of electromagnetics, optics and physics. UT is one of the most widely used nondestructive testing techniques due to its high performance in terms of detection efficiency and safety. The rapid development of modern industrial products and technologies has created a new challenge and demand for ultrasonic nondestructive testing technology. This book introduces the fundamentals of UT, including sound wave and sound field, interface wave theory and liquid-solid coupled sound field. It then discusses various types of UT methods, ranging from the critically refracted longitudinal wave method to ultrasonic surface wave and ultrasonic guided wave detection methods. Some newly developed UT techniques are also discussed, including phased-array UT, high-frequency UT and non-contact UT. This title will appeal to engineering students and technicians in the field of ultrasonic nondestructive testing.
An ambiguous message led her into the abyss. She had witnessed her father's death, her mother's mental disorder, the sudden death of her baby, and her husband, who had been married for three years, colluding with a third party to force her to die. Perhaps it was due to the pity of the heavens that her unwilling soul was reborn in the body of a novice celebrity. The moment she woke up, she found herself in deep crisis. This book examines Chinese Communist activities in Hong Kong from the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War in 1937 to the handover in 1997. It reveals a peculiar part of Chinese Communist history, and traces six decades of astounding united front between the Chinese Communists and the Hong Kong tycoons and upper-class business elite.
This two-volume set LNCS 11554 and 11555 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 16th International Symposium on Neural Networks, ISNN 2019, held in Moscow, Russia, in July 2019. The 111 papers presented in the two volumes were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers were organized in topical sections named: Learning System, Graph Model, and Adversarial Learning; Time Series Analysis, Dynamic Prediction, and Uncertain Estimation; Model Optimization, Bayesian Learning, and Clustering; Game Theory, Stability Analysis, and Control Method; Signal Processing, Industrial Application, and Data Generation; Image Recognition, Scene Understanding, and Video Analysis; Bio-signal, Biomedical Engineering, and Hardware.
“A well-organized and excellently researched work” (H-War) on one of the crucial battles of China’s civil war. In the spring of 1946, Communists and Nationalist Chinese were battled for control of Manchuria and supremacy in the civil war. The Nationalist attack on Siping ended with a Communist withdrawal, but further pursuit was halted by a ceasefire brokered by the American general, George Marshall. Within three years, Mao Zedong’s troops had captured Manchuria and would soon drive Chiang Kai-shek’s forces off the mainland. Did Marshall, as Chiang later claimed, save the Communists and determine China’s fate? Putting the battle into the context of the military and political struggles fought, Harold M. Tanner casts light on all sides of this historic confrontation and shows how the outcome has been, and continues to be, interpreted to suit the needs of competing visions of China’s past and future. “A genuine addition to our knowledge about this battle and the Chinese civil war in general.” —Mark Wilkinson, Virginia Military Institute
A new social history of China's Civil War, 1945-9, which brought dramatic political and social revolution to China.
