This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advanced Concepts for Intelligent Vision Systems, ACIVS 2011, held in Ghent, Belgium, in August 2011. The 66 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 124 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on classification recognition, and tracking, segmentation, images analysis, image processing, video surveillance and biometrics, algorithms and optimization; and 3D, depth and scene understanding.
This volume provides a much-needed interdisciplinary angle on the subject of attention in cognitive systems. It constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-workshop proceedings of the 5th International Workshop on Attention in Cognitive Systems, held in Hyderabad, India, in January 2007. The 31 papers are organized in topical sections that cover every aspect of the subject, from the embodiment of attention and its cognitive control, to the applications of attentive vision.
Attention has represented a core scienti?c topic in the design of AI-enabled systems in the last few decades. Today, in the ongoing debate, design, and c- putationalmodelingofarti?cialcognitivesystems, attentionhasgainedacentral position as a focus of research. For instance, attentional methods are considered in investigating the interfacing of sensory and cognitive information processing, for the organization of behaviors, and for the understanding of individual and social cognition in infant development. Whilevisualcognitionplaysacentralroleinhumanperception,?ndingsfrom neuroscience and experimental psychology have provided strong evidence about the perception–action nature of cognition. ...
This LNCS volume contains the papers presented at the 3rd International Conference on Advances in Pattern Recognition (ICAPR 2005) organized in August, 2005 in the beautiful city of Bath, UK.
In 1936 and at just 17years old, Yusuf Abbas murders two desert travellers for their camels and worldly goods. In 1950 and now calling himself Sheikh Yusuf Abbas, he murders a British Ambassador and the members of a British oil exploration company, shortly afterwards, when a neighbouring Sheikh and his family are poisoned, he merges their lands to create the Sabba Oil empire. On the other side of the world, Richard Neilson, a sickly 14-year-old is devastated when his beloved father (whilst working in Egypt) is decapitated by Arab fanatics. He vows to avenge his death. Two years later, and having thrown himself into a gruelling fitness regime, he enlists in the army and eventually wins select...
The two volume set LNCS 3686 and LNCS 3687 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on Advances in Pattern Recognition, ICAPR 2005, held in Bath, UK in August 2005. The papers submitted to ICAPR 2005 were thoroughly reviewed by up to three referees per paper and less than 40% of the submitted papers were accepted. The first volume includes 73 contributions related to Pattern Recognition and Data Mining (which included papers from the tracks of pattern recognition methods, knowledge and learning, and data mining); topics addressed are pattern recognition, data mining, signal processing and OCR/ document analysis. The second volume contains 87 contributions related to Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis (which included papers from the applications track) and deals with security and surveillance, biometrics, image processing and medical imaging. It also contains papers from the Workshop on Pattern Recognition for Crime Prevention.
