Ini dapat terjadi apabila mekanisme normal dari seseorang untuk mengatasi masalah tidak berfungsi dengan baik, atau ketika orang itu tidak mendapat bantuan dari orang lain yang ia butuhkan. Individu yang tidak dapat menghadapi kondisi krisis akan mengalami gangguan kesehatan mental seperti stress hingga depresi.
