"This book explores the world of Decision Making Support Systems (DMSS), which encompasses Decision Support Systems (DSS), Executive Information Systems (EIS), Expert Systems (ES), Knowledge Based Systems (KBS), Creativity Enhancing Systems (CES), and more"--Provided by publisher.
This book contains extended and revised versions of a set of selected papers from two workshops organized by the Euro Working Group on Decision Support Systems (EWG-DSS), which were held in London and Paris, in June and November 2011, respectively. The workshop themes were "Decision Support Systems" and "Collaborative Decision Making." The 11 papers were selected from 52 submissions and are representative of the current research in these fields. They address challenges such as conceptual models, software specification and simulation, collaborative requirements specification, as well as multi-objective and multi-criteria decision making.
Decision-making has evolved recently thanks to the introduction of information and communication technologies in many organizations, which has led to new kinds of decision-making processes, called “collaborative decision-making”, at the organizational and cognitive levels. This book looks at the development of the decision-making process in organizations. Decision-aiding and its paradigm of problem solving are defined, showing how decision-makers now need to work in a cooperative way. Definitions of cooperation and associated concepts such as collaboration and coordination are given and a framework of cooperative decision support systems is presented, including intelligent DSS, cooperati...
This publication presents the latest innovations and achievements of academic communities on Decision Support Systems (DSS). These advances include theory systems, computer-aided methods, algorithms, techniques and applications related to supporting decision making. The aim is to develop approaches for applying information systems technology to increase the effectiveness of decision making in situations where the computer system can support and enhance human judgements in the performance of tasks that have elements which cannot be specified in advance. Also it is intended to improve ways of synthesizing and applying relevant work from resource disciplines to practical implementation of syste...
This Proceedings presents the short papers, posters and abstracts of full papers accepted to the 3rd International Conference on Decision Support System Technology, ICDSST 2017, held in Namur, Belgium, during May 29th to 31st, 2017. This event had a main theme Data, Information and Knowledge Visualisation in Decision Making. This event is organized by the Euro Working Group on Decision Support Systems (EWG-DSS) in collaboration with the University of Namur Belgium, the EFFaTA Research Team of the University of Namur and the Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium.
This book recapitulates the major developments in Decision Support Systems (DSS) over the last 30 years in order to evaluate the research areas of decision making and in which direction the field should proceed. As it attempts to find a consensus about the next steps for the future of DSS research, the book also enforces the trends and new technologies currently in use. The book examines topics such as decision analysis for enterprise systems and non-hierarchical networks, integrated solutions for decision support and knowledge management in distributed environments, decision support system evaluation and analysis through social networks, and e-learning and its application to real environments. It clearly presents the evidence to support their cases and attempts to promote an extensive and objective discussion. In addition, the book also reflects on approaches to dead-end ideas and failures in DSS to better understand the lessons learned. The contributions for this book have been written by thought leaders and influential researchers from the EURO Working Group of Decision Support Systems (EWG-DSS).
Decision Making Support Systems (DMSS) are information systems that interactively support the decision making process of individuals and groups in life, public, and private organizations, and other entities. These systems include Decision Support Systems (DSS), Executive Information Systems (EIS), Expert Systems (ES), Knowledge Based Systems (KBS), and Creativity Enhancing Systems (CES). Other DMSS, such as Executive Support systems (ESS), Management Support Systems (MSS), Artificially Intelligent Decision Support Systems (IDSS), and Decision Technology Systems (DTS), integrate the functions of DSS, EIS, ES, KBS, or CES, to provide more comprehensive support than the individual separate syst...
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Decision Support Systems Technologies, ICDSST 2023, held during May 30 – June 1, 2023. The EWG-DSS series of International Conference on Decision Support System Technology (ICDSST) is planned to consolidate the tradition of annual events organized by the EWG-DSS in offering a platform for European and international DSS communities, comprising the academic and industrial sectors, to present state-of-the-art DSS research and developments, to discuss current challenges that surround decision-making processes, to exchange ideas about realistic and innovative solutions, and to co-develop potential business opportunities. The main theme of this year was “Decision Support Systems in An Uncertain World: The Contribution of Digital Twins”. The 21 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 65 submissions. They were organized in topical sections as follows: DSS models, methods, and tools; DSS for business performance and stakeholders; DSS applications for sustainability in health, energy and transportation; and DSS users and successful adoption.
