This edited volume presents selected contributions from the International Conference on Experimental Vibration Analysis of Civil Engineering Structures held in San Diego, California in 2017 (EVACES2017). This book explores the changing understandings of Islam by focusing on the Islamist movement's production of literary fiction since the early 1980s. By focusing on Islamic literary narratives of the period, this study introduces issues of change, space, history and analytical relation that are excluded by the essentialist reading of Islamism.

"The anthology produced by the experts of the Institute of Oriental Studies (IOS) of the Academy of Sciences and foreign experts, Marco Di Bella (Italy) and Antonio Mirabile (Italy), contains materials that provide a description of the manuscript collection at the IOS of the Academy of Sciences representing more than 26,000 manuscripts and 39,000 lithographs in Arabic script. It highlights the history of the Institute's manuscript collection and provides an analysis of the subject matter. The work also covers the art of book writing and the activities of representatives from various schools of calligraphy and ornamental art such as miniature illustrations on the collection's manuscripts and specific features of their bindings. Furthermore, it investigates the development of paper production and describes the different paper types used in the manuscripts. After the devastating dust storms that swept across Northern China in 2000, there has been increased interest in studying experiences with dust storm mitigation, prevention, forecasting and control. This book contains a range of essays and case studies written by a group of Chinese and international experts with experience in the field of dryland rehabilitation and ecological restoration of desertified lands at the global and local level. Issues discussed include: the experiences in Canada and the US during the Dust Bowl era of the 1930's; the desertification of areas on the continents of Australia and Africa; case studies from Asia which look at the consequences of the large-scale implementation of policies and land-use practices; and methods for the forecasting, mitigation and prevention of dust storms.
