Jia Khan has always lived like this. Successful London lawyer Jia Khan is a long way from the grubby Northern streets she knew as a child, where her father, Akbar Khan, led the Pakistani community and ran the local organized crime syndicate. The police have always relied on the Khan to maintain the fragile order of the streets. But a bloody power struggle has broken out among warring communities and nobody is safe. Justice needs to be restored, and Jia is about to discover that justice always comes at a cost.

This is a small collection of the various works of Tanjina Ashraf Khan Mou. These poems call the reader to dig deep within the words and discover a message through each of them. Stories of life, loss, hope, wonder, and freedom lie within! The author meditates on identity, emotions, contentment, melancholy and the tightly woven relationship between dark and light. The poetics of her writing embody a motion that is unpredictable but relatable, opening the door of conjecture and wonderment.

Russia's Steppe Frontier

Russia's Steppe Frontier

This study of Russia’s colonial expansion across the Eurasian steppe is “a tremendously important contribution to the field of Russian history” (Valerie Kivelson). From the decline of the Mongol Golden Horde to the end of the 18th century, the Russian government expanded its influence and power throughout its southern borderlands. The process of incorporating these lands and peoples into the Russian Empire was not only a military and political struggle but also a cultural contest between the indigenous worlds of the steppe and Russian imperial hegemony. Drawing on sources and archival materials in Russian and Turkic languages, Michael Khodarkovsky presents a complex picture of the encounter between the Russian authorities and native peoples. A major contribution to the comparative study of empires and frontiers, “no other work treats Moscow's colonial expansion to the south and east so competently” (Russia).

Hardly anyone paid attention when Sultan Khan arrived in London on April 26, 1929. A humble servant from a village in the Punjab, Khan had little formal education and barely spoke English. He had learned the rules of Western chess only three years earlier, yet within a few months he created a sensation by becoming the British Empire champion. Sultan Khan was taken to England by Sir Umar Hayat Khan, an Indian nobleman and politician who used his servant’s successes to promote his own interests in the turbulent years before India gained independence. Sultan Khan remained in Europe for the best part of five years, competing with the leading chess players of the era, including World Champion A...

Hope and Time

I'm creating this book because of the society I live in, which allows for the adjustment of anything. However, our culture was beautiful because of the presence of religious beliefs. However, those in positions of authority and wealthy families take advantage of that at the same time. By comparing one religion to another, people are taught to hate one another and to lead normal men in the wrong directions in society. When one religion hates another, that creates a hateful religion. I'm penning that book since every faith is admirable and rich in culture. And everyone treats one another with respect based on common decency rather than religion, we had that thought while having different families yet the same hearts.
