Foundations of Augmented Cognition. Directing the Future of Adaptive Systems
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Augmented Cognition, FAC 2011, held in Orlando, FL, USA in July 2011, within the framework of the 14th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2011, with 11 other thematically similar conferences. The 75 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers are organized in topical parts on theories, models, and technologies for augmented cognition; neuroscience and brain monitoring; augmented cognition, social computing, and collaboration; augmented cognition for learning; augmented cognition and interaction; and augmented cognition in complex environments.
Topics in Global Real Analytic Geometry
In the first two chapters we review the theory developped by Cartan, Whitney and Tognoli. Then Nullstellensatz is proved both for Stein algebras and for the algebra of real analytic functions on a C-analytic space. Here we find a relation between real Nullstellensatz and seventeenth Hilbert’s problem for positive semidefinite analytic functions. Namely, a positive answer to Hilbert’s problem implies a solution for the real Nullstellensatz more similar to the one for real polinomials. A chapter is devoted to the state of the art on this problem that is far from a complete answer. In the last chapter we deal with inequalities. We describe a class of semianalytic sets defined by countably many global real analytic functions that is stable under topological properties and under proper holomorphic maps between Stein spaces, that is, verifies a direct image theorem. A smaller class admits also a decomposition into irreducible components as it happens for semialgebraic sets. During the redaction some proofs have been simplified with respect to the original ones.
Topology of Real Algebraic Sets
In the Fall of 1975 we started a joint project with the ultimate goal of topo logically classifying real algebraic sets. This has been a long happy collaboration (c.f., [K2)). In 1985 while visiting M.S.R.1. we organized and presented our classification results up to that point in the M.S.R.1. preprint series [AK14] -[AK17]. Since these results are interdependent and require some prerequisites as well as familiarity with real algebraic geometry, we decided to make them self contained by presenting them as a part of a book in real algebraic geometry. Real and Complex Singularities
Much progress has been made recently in a number of areas by the application of new geometrical methods arising from advances in singularity theory. This collection of invited papers presented at the 3rd International Workshop on Real and Complex Singularities, held in August 1994 at ICMSC-USP (Sao Carlos), documents the geometric study of singularities and its applications.
Current Trends in Transformation Groups
This book provides an overview of some of the most active topics in the theory of transformation groups over the past decades and stresses advances obtained in the last dozen years.
