From the book: Allāh () says in Sūrah An-Nūr, "And let those who oppose the Messenger's (Muḥammad (May Allāh elevate his rank & grant him peace)) commandment (i.e., his Sunnah - legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements) (among the sects) beware, let some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant) should befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them." [Sūrah an-Nūr 24:63] and Allāh says in Sūrah Al-Hashr, "And whatsoever the Messenger (Muḥammad (May Allāh elevate his rank & grant him peace)) gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it)." an introduction to the manner of performing the obligated Prayers as per the Sunnah. For action to be accepted it has to fulfil two conditions. The first is the pure intention in the heart that the action is exclusively performed to seek the pleasure of Allaah alone- this is called Ikhlaas. The second condition is that the action is in the same manner as the Prophet's meaning it is according to the Sunnah. The Messenger of Allaah Muhammad may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him commanded the believers to "pray as you have seen me pray."
20 November 1979: as morning prayers began, hundreds of hardline Islamist gunmen, armed with rifles smuggled in coffins, stormed the Grand Mosque in Mecca. With thousands of terrified worshippers trapped inside, the result was a bloody siege that lasted two weeks, caused hundreds of deaths, prompted an international diplomatic crisis and unleashed forces that would eventually lead to the rise of al Qaeda. Journalist Yaroslav Trofimov takes us day-by-day through one of the most momentous – and heavily censored – events in recent history, interviewing many direct participants in the siege and drawing on secret documents to reveal the truth about the first operation of modern global jihad.
This book challenges prevalent Western media and popular interpretations of Islam. Through a political and historical analysis of Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Pakistancountries that represent the religious, ethnic, and ideological spectrum of the Muslim worldit explores whether or not Islam as a political religion and civilization can provide a preferable alternative to Western capitalist democracy. Sayeed argues that although Islamic fundamentalism, particularly in its militant and violent form, lacks the potential to become such a system, some of the major Islamic ideas, if reinterpreted and reformulated, can provide a viable alternative to Western political and economic dominance, especially in the Middle and Near East.
Terrorism motivated by Islamist religious ideology has been on the rise for the last forty years. Why? The three prior waves of terrorism—anarchist, nationalist, and Marxist—arose generally from a combination of geopolitical events and local grievances. This “fourth wave” of terrorism, however, has risen out of a different set of conditions. Existing analyses of terrorism often consider how terrorist ideologies have evolved or how grievances have changed over time. But these approaches miss what could be called the “supply” side of ideology—how state and nonstate actors have exported an ideology of Islamism and how this ideology has taken root beyond what grievances or ideologi...

This book is an extraordinary account of a man’s vision, of a life that for over six decades successfully championed the betterment of Muslim youth and communities the world over. Totonji, a lone voice with little training, would become an inspiration for others and a powerful fundraiser. From a humble few hundred dollars of his own money, and an efficient team of like-minded students, he ultimately established one of the largest networks of local and international organisations in the world, travelling to more than 130 countries over the course of decades, to render help wherever it was needed. Along that journey he met some eminent personalities including Dato’ Anwar Ibrahim (current P...
