Geometric Analysis, Mathematical Relativity, and Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations
This volume presents the proceedings of the Southeast Geometry Seminar for the meetings that took place bi-annually between the fall of 2009 and the fall of 2011, at Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Alabama Birmingham, and the University of Tennessee. Talks at the seminar are devoted to various aspects of geometric analysis and related fields, in particular, nonlinear partial differential equations, general relativity, and geometric topology. Articles in this volume cover the following topics: a new set of axioms for General Relativity, CR manifolds, the Mane Conjecture, minimal surfaces, maximal measures, pendant drops, the Funk-Radon-Helgason method, ADM-mass and capacity, and extrinsic curvature in metric spaces.
Geometric and Computational Spectral Theory
A co-publication of the AMS and Centre de Recherches Mathématiques The book is a collection of lecture notes and survey papers based on the mini-courses given by leading experts at the 2015 Séminaire de Mathématiques Supérieures on Geometric and Computational Spectral Theory, held from June 15–26, 2015, at the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques, Université de Montréal, Montréal, Quebec, Canada. The volume covers a broad variety of topics in spectral theory, highlighting its connections to differential geometry, mathematical physics and numerical analysis, bringing together the theoretical and computational approaches to spectral theory, and emphasizing the interplay between the two.
Algebraic Geometry and Number Theory
This lecture notes volume presents significant contributions from the “Algebraic Geometry and Number Theory” Summer School, held at Galatasaray University, Istanbul, June 2-13, 2014. It addresses subjects ranging from Arakelov geometry and Iwasawa theory to classical projective geometry, birational geometry and equivariant cohomology. Its main aim is to introduce these contemporary research topics to graduate students who plan to specialize in the area of algebraic geometry and/or number theory. All contributions combine main concepts and techniques with motivating examples and illustrative problems for the covered subjects. Naturally, the book will also be of interest to researchers working in algebraic geometry, number theory and related fields.
Inverse Problems and Applications
This volume contains the proceedings of two conferences on Inverse Problems and Applications, held in 2012, to celebrate the work of Gunther Uhlmann. The first conference was held at the University of California, Irvine, from June 18-22, 2012, and the second was held at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, from September 17-21, 2012. The topics covered include inverse problems in medical imaging, scattering theory, geometry and image processing, and the mathematical theory of cloaking, as well as methods related to inverse problems.
Differential Geometry
The present book contains 14 papers published in the Special Issue “Differential Geometry” of the journal Mathematics. They represent a selection of the 30 submissions. This book covers a variety of both classical and modern topics in differential geometry. We mention properties of both rectifying and affine curves, the geometry of hypersurfaces, angles in Minkowski planes, Euclidean submanifolds, differential operators and harmonic forms on Riemannian manifolds, complex manifolds, contact manifolds (in particular, Sasakian and trans-Sasakian manifolds), curvature invariants, and statistical manifolds and their submanifolds (in particular, Hessian manifolds). We wish to mention that among the authors, there are both well-known geometers and young researchers. The authors are from countries with a tradition in differential geometry: Belgium, China, Greece, Japan, Korea, Poland, Romania, Spain, Turkey, and United States of America. Many of these papers were already cited by other researchers in their articles. This book is useful for specialists in differential geometry, operator theory, physics, and information geometry as well as graduate students in mathematics.
Qurʾānic Hermeneutics from the 13th to the 19th Century
This project presents the hermeneutical approaches to the Qurʾān of the most prominent Qurʾānic scholars in Islamic intellectual history. Not only scholars who wrote commentaries on the Qurʾān in the narrow sense of the word (tafāsīr) are to be presented, but also those who dealt hermeneutically with the Qurʾān in various ways. The Handbook of Qurʾānic Hermeneutics is the first book that discusses all the hermeneutical fields of the Qurʾān. It will be published in seven volumes.
