Dyes and Pigments
In this book the authors go back to basics to describe the structural differences between dyes and pigments, their mechanisms of action, properties and applications. They set the scene by explaining the reasons behind these differences and show how dyes are predominately organic compounds that dissolve or react with substrates, whereas pigments are (predominantly) finely ground inorganic substances that are insoluble and therefore have a different mode of coloring. Gandhi and Anarchy
Sankaran Nair was knighted in 1912. In 1915 he joined the Viceroy's Council as member for education. In that office he frequently urged Indian constitutional reforms, and he supported the Montagu-Chelmsford plan (1918), according to which India would gradually achieve self-government within the British Empire. He resigned from the council in 1919 in protest against the protracted use of martial law to quell unrest in the Punjab. n his book Gandhi and Anarchy (1922), Sankaran Nair attacked Gandhi's nationalist noncooperation movement and British actions under martial law. A British court held that this work libelled Sir Michael Francis O'Dwyer, lieutenant governor of India during the Punjab rebellion of 1919.
Sagalassos I
Sagalassos, once the metropolis of the Western Taurus range (Pisidia, Turkey), was only thoroughly surveyed in 1884 and 1885 by an Austrian team directed by K. Lanckoronski. In 1986-1989 this work was resumed by a British-Belgian team co-directed by Dr. Stephen Mitchell (University College of Swansea) and by Prof. Dr. Marc Waelkens (Catholic University of Leuven).
