French Aircraft in the First World War
During the cradle of aviation, at the beginning of the Great War, France had access to only a few dozen military aircraft, with a staff who didn't quite know what to do with them. However, during the course of the conflict, the embryonic Air Force, dedicated to the creation of reconnaissance and bombing missions, evolved like wildfire to the point that by the Armistice of 11 November 1918, French military aviation had become one of the world's most powerful as a result of the construction of 10,000 aircraft spread throughout nearly 300 squadrons. Mikoyan-Gurevitch MIG 15 & 17
At the beginning of the Korean War, the west discovered the MiG-15, the first mass-produced jet fighter built in the Soviet Union. This small device entered service at the end of 1950 in its improved version, the MiG-15bis, and in turn was quickly deployed to Korea where, with its powerful armament and handling, it was an unpleasant surprise for the forces of the United Nations, after finding their air superiority with the arrival of the latest version of the famous F-86 Sabre. While the "bundle" - a nickname given by NATO to the MiG-15 - was barely in use, MiG conceived its successor, the more efficient and wing modified MiG-17 ("Fresco"). The type was withdrawn from service in the USSR in the late sixties, however it had great success abroad. The "Fresco" was the most exported Soviet fighter until the arrival of its indirect successor, MiG-21 (see Planes & Pilots No. 12).

The third volume in this successful series detailing the elite phalanx of Emperor Napoléon, puts an end to the study of the Guard cavalry. The troops depicted in Vol. 3 are the Mamelucks in their oriental dress, the famous Polish lancers, the red lancers (Dutch) and the guards of honor. (A fourth and last volume will subsequently describe the other mounted troops of the Imperial Guard: horse artillery, supply train and gendarmerie).
The Churches of Broughty Ferry
Broughty Ferry on the outskirts of Dundee grew from a small fishing village to one of the wealthiest places in the world during the 19th century. As a consequence, a lot of churches were built, 11 being within an area of about 800m by 500 m. In its 12 chapters the history of each of church is described, along with the BFCG*, and the YMCA. There is also a chapter on early Christian worship in the area. Besides explaining why each church is here, the chapters also describe the people who made up the church and the buildings.
