HISTORY OF THE PREEN FAMILY: Volume One
Volume One of this history of the Preen family covers the history from the earliest records. A DNA study has shown that most of the Preens alive today belong to one of three groups and each of these groups is the subject of one of the later volumes (Volume Two the Cardington Group, Volume Three the Kings Stanley Group and Volume Four the Bridgnorth Group). This volume describes all the entries which do not fit into one of the other volumes and includes the Prinn families in Shrewsbury and Kings Charlton, the Pruan family in Gloucestershire and the Prynnes in Cornwall and Devon.
The Honourable Aleck
The Honourable Aleck is the true story of the life and times of Alexander Rocke Robertson and Margaret Bruce Eberts, Aleck's beloved wife 'Maggie'. Born and raised in Chatham, Upper Canada, 'Aleck' Robertson came to British Columbia in 1864 as a young lawyer, and became one of BC's most eminent citizens. Well-known and highly respected in BC's courtrooms, he was also Mayor of Victoria, a member of BC's first provincial Cabinet, and BC's first Canadian-born Supreme Court Judge, all before his untimely death at the age of 40. The combining of the colonies of Vancouver Island and British Columbia, and then confederation with Canada, give a dramatic backdrop to the story. Aleck's passionate correspondence with Maggie throughout their lives, and their warm and loving family life with their many sons in early Victoria, show the human side of those turbulent times in early BC.

Thework at hand is an alphabetical listing of all free African-American heads of household listed in the five U.S. censuses for the State of New York taken between 1790 and 1830. Since it was during this 40-year period that the New York legislature passed a series of statutes resulting in the gradual emancipation of the state's slave population, the scope of this work documents the emergence of a completely free black population by 1830. In all, there are 15,000 references to freedmen, many of whom appear in more than one census.
