The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the highest energy collider ever built. It resides near Geneva in a tunnel 3.8m wide, with a circumference of 26.7km, which was excavated in 1983-1988 to initially house the electron-positron collider LEP. The LHC was approved in 1995, and it took until 2010 for reliable operation. By now, a larger set of larger integrated luminosities have been accumulated for physics analyses in the four collider experiments: ATLAS, CMS, LHCb and ALICE.The LHC operates with an extended cryogenic plant, using a multi-stage injection system comprising the PS and SPS accelerators (still in use for particle physics experiments at lower energies). The beams are guided by 1232 ...
This bibliography, first published in 1957, provides citations to North American academic literature on Europe, Central Europe, the Balkans, the Baltic States and the former Soviet Union. Organised by discipline, it covers the arts, humanities, social sciences, life sciences and technology.
Unifying Physics of Accelerators, Lasers and Plasma introduces the physics of accelerators, lasers and plasma in tandem with the industrial methodology of inventiveness, a technique that teaches that similar problems and solutions appear again and again in seemingly dissimilar disciplines.
The main topic of the book are the superconducting dipole and quadrupole magnets needed in high-energy accelerators and storage rings for protons, antiprotons or heavy ions. The basic principles of low-temperature superconductivity are outlined with special emphasis on the effects which are relevant for accelerator magnets. Properties and fabrication methods of practical superconductors are described. Analytical methods for field calculation and multipole expansion are presented for coils without and with iron yoke. The effect of yoke saturation and geometric distortions on field quality is studied. Persistent magnetization currents in the superconductor and eddy currents the copper part of ...

This book presents current investigations in the field of mathematical modeling and simulation to support the development of intelligent information systems in domains such as ecology and geology, manufacturing, project management, and safety of distributed information systems. The book will be of interest to developers of modern high-tech software complexes for situational control centers, based on mathematical modeling and simulation methods. In addition, it will appeal to software engineers and programmers, offering them new implementation and application methods. Gathering the latest research, prepared by leading scholars, and identifying promising new directions for solving complex scientific and practical problems, the book presents selected outcomes of the 14th International Scientific-Practical Conference, MODS2019, held in Chernihiv, Ukraine, on June 24 to 26, 2019.
"Extensive geological and geophysical surveying contribute to understanding of the deep crustal structure and geological history of the Early Precambrian crust of the eastern Fennoscandian Shield and the basement of the East European Platform. The authors present 3D models of the deep crustal structure of the territory, and reconstruct the succession of geological events"--
