Pytre, Son of Dog

This is a book for dog people. It centers on the bond between man and dog. Although it is secular theme, it contains Jesus. This book is not for everybody. In our story, the protagonist, Curt Mays, is the deputy commander of Seal Team Three, the K9 Trident Warriors. He is an excellent highly decorated warrior, but has problems dealing with spiritual and supernatural events. We follow Curt, and his service dog Samson, as they track a phantom being known as Pytre Dawg. Pytre is the human reincarnation of Jesus puppy. Pytre was murdered in 1968 and is currently a ghost. Constantin Carathéodory

With breathtaking detail, Maria Georgiadou sheds light on the work and life of Constantin Carathéodory, who until now has been ignored by historians. In her thought-provoking book, Georgiadou maps out the mathematician’s oeuvre, life and turbulent historical surroundings. Descending from the Greek élite of Constantinople, Carathéodory graduated from the military school of Brussels, became engineer at the Assiout dam in Egypt and finally dedicated a lifetime to mathematics and education. He significantly contributed to: calculus of variations, the theory of point set measure, the theory of functions of a real variable, pdes, and complex function theory. An exciting and well-written biography, once started, difficult to put down.

Fairy Tales and Society

Fairy Tales and Society

This collection of exemplary essays by internationally recognized scholars examines the fairy tale from historical, folkloristic, literary, and psychoanalytical points of view. For generations of children and adults, fairy tales have encapsulated social values, often through the use of fixed characters and situations, to a far greater extent than any other oral or literary form. In many societies, fairy tales function as a paradigm both for understanding society and for developing individual behavior and personality. A few of the topics covered in this volume: oral narration in contemporary society; madness and cure in the 1001 Nights; the female voice in folklore and fairy tale; change in narrative form; tests, tasks, and trials in the Grimms' fairy tales; and folklorists as agents of nationalism. The subject of methodology is discussed by Torborg Lundell, Stven Swann Jones, Hans-Jorg Uther, and Anna Tavis.
