Words are the elements of a language that also serve as a mirror reflecting the cultural history and development of a people. Tracing words to their origins will open a unique window to human civilization and help us understand the roots of some of our present social trends and attitudes. The primary motivation for writing this book is the hope that it may foster a greater appreciation of the variances among different languages and cultures, and ultimately nurture a greater understanding among those who speak apparently different languages. The words and their documented derivations in this dictionary are displayed in "family tree" charts to make it easier to see the ties between cognate words like siblings and cousins in the same family.
Persian Etymology with Indo-European Cognates
This Etymological dictionary presents the complex derivation of words in simple family tree charts. They help us see the derivation of words at a glance and follow their spread in different languages. The charts also show the earlier or original meanings of words that could help us understand the roots of some of our present social trends and attitudes. The words for father in Indo-European languages, for example, come from roots meaning "protector of the family". Some other roots tell us that the role of mothers was to feed, brothers had to carry the family load, and daughters were expected to milk their farm animals. The charts in this dictionary show derivation of over 9400 Persian and other Iranian words along with their 5800 cognates in Indo-European languages. Due to the exchange of words with other languages, more than 1400 cognates in Arabic, Hebrew, Turkish and other languages are also included in these charts.

The Origins of Persian Words is a Persian dictionary that shows the derivation paths of about 2700 Persian words from their roots, which are mainly Indo-European. These derivation paths are drawn in simple charts in front of each word and go through different languages before reaching the Persian language. A separate list of root words, along with Persian words derived from them, is also provided for reference.
