The rates of thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate and an ammonium perchlorate solid propellant at 15, 25, and 50 kilobars (1.5X10 , 2.5X10 , and 5.0XlO N/m ) pressure were studied in a cubic anvil press. The data were correlated by first order rate equations to obtain the temperature variation of the specific reaction rates and the apparent activation energies. Explosion limits of pure ammunium perchlorate are included to 30 kilobars (3. OXlO9 N/m2). Electrical resistance measurements of this salt at high pressure were also made.
The Handbook of Inorganic Compounds consists of basic chemistry data for more than 3000 selected gases, liquids, and solid compounds. The compounds are listed alphabetically and indexes located at the back of the book provide the CAS Registry number, molecular formula, and name/synonym. The format for presenting information has both numerical data and descriptive information. The data include: Molecular weight Melting and boiling points Solubility Density Viscosity Hardness Vapor pressure Reactivity Thermal conductivity Thermal expansion coefficient Lattice parameters Electrical resistivity Poisson's ratio Dielectric constant The material in this work includes the mainly the chemical element...
This is a collection of previously published technical papers that appeared in the Proceedings of the International Pyrotechnics Seminars from 1985 to 1994. The articles have been reformatted and laser reproduced. Many of the figures have been improved. Hopefully, the scientific information presented in these papers will prove to be useful to the reader.
Perchlorates are the salts derived from perchloric acid (HClO4). They occur both naturally and through manufacturing. They have been used as a medicine for more than 50 years to treat thyroid gland disorders and are used extensively within the pyrotechnics industry, and ammonium perchlorate is also a component of solid rocket fuel. This book presents current research data from across the globe in the study of perchlorates, their production, uses, and health effects. Some topics discussed, herein, are: trends in the study of the electrochemical stability of perchlorate ions; the structural and vibrational properties of chromyl perchlorate; perchlorate formation in electrochemical water disinfection; metal perchlorates as Lewis acids; alkaline earth metal perchlorates; and removal of perchlorate from water.
Charles Mader, a leading scientist who conducted theoretical research at Los Alamos National Laboratory for more than 30 years, sets a new standard with this reference on numerical modeling of explosives and propellants. This book updates and expands the information presented in the author's landmark work, Numerical Modeling of Detonations, published in 1979 and still in use today. Numerical Modeling of Explosives and Propellants incorporates the considerable changes the personal computer has brought to numerical modeling since the first book was published, and includes new three-dimensional modeling techniques and new information on propellant performance and vulnerability. Both an introduc...

Chemicals Used for Illegal Purposes helps hazmat professionals and others determine if chemicals at a suspicious site could be used to make illegal substances such as drugs, explosives, pyrotechnics, nerve agents, and other toxins. It profiles dangerous chemicals, covering their appearance, smell, incompatibilities, and identification tests. It features diagrams to assist responders in identifying illegal laboratories. This is a hands-on reference for crime scene responders, policemen, firemen, bomb squad members, drug enforcement officials, and others who need to be able to identify potentially hazardous materials and react quickly and appropriately.
