A crônica é, geralmente, um texto leve, de leitura ligeira, que traz um comentário divertido sobre algum fato do cotidiano e que, ao mesmo tempo, informa e entretém. No entanto, a crônica de Rubem Braga foi além. Ela tem essas características e também um lirismo peculiar, a ponto de inaugurar uma outra maneira de fazer crônicas e fundar uma nova variante do gênero: a crônica poética. Nesta seleção, algumas crônicas poéticas foram analisadas e outras são citadas, num convite ao leitor para singrar pelo mar lírico de Braga, partindo de um desejo de menino de se lançar ao mar, passar por uma embarcação-casa que está ancorada e outras casas-embarcações que navegam, até chegar ao ancoradouro onde se encontra a casa/parada final, e, finalmente, transcender.
