Strategies and Tactics in Organic Synthesis

A classic in the area of organic synthesis, Strategies and Tactics in Organic Synthesis provides a forum for investigators to discuss their approach to the science and art of organic synthesis. Rather than a simple presentation of data or a second-hand analysis, this book vividly demonstrates through first hand accounts how synthesis is really done and how by discovering new reactions, creating new designs and building molecules with atom and step economies, the advancement of the science of organic synthesis is providing solutions through function to create a better world. Presents state-of-the-art developments in organic synthesisProvides insight and offers new perspective to problem-solvingWritten by leading experts in the field.

Organic Synthesis

Organic Synthesis: State of the Art 2009-2011 is a convenient, concise reference that offers a summary of current research in organic synthesis. The fourth volume in the esteemed State of the Art series, the book complies two years' worth if Douglas Taber's popular weekly column, "Organic Chemistry Highlights." The series is an invaluable resource, leading chemists quickly and easily to the most significant developments in the field. -- Book Jacket.

Reagents for Radical and Radical Ion Chemistry

Radicals and radical ions are important intermediates with wide use in organic synthesis. The first book to concentrate on reagents for the creation and use of radicals and radical ions, this new volume in the Handbooks of Reagents for Organic Synthesis series compiles articles taken from the e-eros database, on reagents for use in radical and radical chemistry, to help the chemist in the lab choose the right reagents. Reflecting the enormous growth of radical chemistry over the past ten years, this is an essential guide for all synthetic chemists.

Fundamental World of Quantum Chemistry

Per-Olov Löwdin's stature has been a symbol of the world of quantum theory during the past five decades, through his basic contributions to the development of the conceptual framework of Quantum Chemistry and introduction of the fundamental concepts; through a staggering number of regular summer schools, winter institutes, innumerable lectures at Uppsala, Gainesville and elsewhere, and Sanibel Symposia; by founding the International Journal of Quantum Chemistry and Advances in Quantum Chemistry; and through his vision of the possible and his optimism for the future, which has inspired generations of physicists, chemists, mathematicians, and biologists to devote their lives to molecular electronic theory and dynamics, solid state, and quantum biology. Fundamental World of Quantum Chemistry: Volumes I, II and III form a collection of papers dedicated to the memory of Per-Olov Löwdin. These volumes are of interest to a broad audience of quantum, theoretical, physical, biological, and computational chemists; atomic, molecular, and condensed matter physicists; biophysicists; mathematicians working in many-body theory; and historians and philosophers of natural science.

Strained Hydrocarbons

In clearly structured chapters, this book covers the fascinating world of hydrocarbons, providing an insight into the fundamental principles of chemistry. The monograph covers modern aspects of the topic, such as carbon nanotubes, molecular flask inclusion, and fullerenes, with new synthetic procedures for the build up of the structural lattice included.

Nonlinear Acoustics - Fundamentals and Applications

These are the proceedings of the 18th International Symposium on Nonlinear Acoustics (ISNA).The ISNA series, held once every three years, is the premier symposium devoted to the field of nonlinear acoustics. Nonlinear acoustical phenomena appear when the sound amplitude is sufficiently large. Then the sound wave is deformed and shocks and sound of new frequencies are created. Earthquake and sonic booms are undesired nonlinear acoustical phenomena; nondestructive testing and cancer sound beam therapy are useful nonlinear acoustical applications. This book is unique in bringing into relief the common physical foundation of so different phenomena and applications.

Automated Mode Recovery and Electronic Stability Control for Wendelstein 7-X Gyrotrons

Magnetic confinement fusion relies on plasma heating and plasma control using gyrotron oscillators providing at megawatt power levels. The operational reliability decreases when operating at the performance limits due to increasing parasitic mode activity. This work demonstrates for the first time the automated, fast recovery of nominal gyrotron operation during a pulse by exploiting the hysteretic gyrotron behaviour after a mode switch being in use at the Wendelstein 7-X ECRH facility.
