WILLKOMMEN IN AUSTRALIEN LANGE BEVOR WIR CHEFREDAKTEURE von GEO Special wurden, kreuzten sich bereits unsere Wege auf dem Fünften Kontinent. Genauer gesagt: Es waren keine Wege, sondern vor allem rotsandige Pisten, auf denen wir im Anschluss an ein Praktikum unterwegs waren. In einem altersschwachen Van rumpelten wir über die dirt roads des Outbacks, wanderten durch nicht enden wollende Eukalyptuswälder und schnorchelten am Great Barrier Reef, bis uns die Luft ausging. Es war natürlich ein ebenso naiver wie aussichtsloser Versuch, in wenigen Wochen das gesamte Land erkunden zu wollen. Denn es ist so spektakulär und vielfältig, dass jede Reise wie mit einem Cliffhanger endet – dem Gefühl von Ungeduld und Neugier auf den nächsten Besuch.
