Efek toksik juga dimiliki tanaman tersebut, sehingga perlu diikuti pemakaian yang aman dalam jangka waktu yang lama. Obat herbal merupakan sintesis pengalaman terapeutik dari sistem pengobatan dalam jangka ratusan tahun. Obat-obatan herbal sekarang sangat diminati di negara berkembang untuk perawatan kesehatan primer bukan karena harganya murah tetapi juga untuk penerimaan budaya yang lebih baik, kompatibilitas yang lebih baik dengan tubuh manusia dan dan efek samping yang minimal.
