The Asketikon of St Basil the Great comprises a new English translation and studies which re-examine the emergence of monasticism in Asia Minor. Rufinus' translation of an earlier edition is compared with the Greek text of the longer edition, as a means of tracing the development of ideas. Silvas concludes that the antecedents of the monastic community of the Great Asketikon are best sought in the domestic ascetic movement in Anatolia as typified at Annisa under theleadership of Makrina.

This book presents 37 letters of Gregory of Nyssa (c. 335-379) translated into English and equipped with scholarly notes. It includes a biography, testimonia from Basil and Gregory Nazianzen, 30 letters established by G. Pasquali and seven additional letters reassigned to Gregory.
The translation is interweaved with a commentary to provide the reader with some guidance through the complexities of Gregory's arguments. The introduction includes an overview of the history of Apollinarianism and discusses the extent to which it is possible to reconstruct, from the fragments quoted by Gregory, the arguments of Apolinarius's Apodeixis to which he is responding. It also examines the background to and the chronology of both of Gregory's anti-Apollinarian works, and looks critically at the arguments that they deploy.
The Cappadocian Fathers had great influence on the church of the fourth century, having brought their passion for Christ and theological expertise to life in their ministry. Their work was not devoid of influence, including that of their immediate family members. Within their writings we uncover the lives of seven women, the Cappadocian Mothers, who may have had more influence on the theology of the church than previously believed. As the Cappadocians wrestle with the Christianization of the concept of deification, we find the women in their lives becoming models for their theological understanding. The lives of the women become points of intersection in the kenosis-theosis parabola. Not only are the Cappadocian Mothers uncovered in the texts, but they become models of an optimistic theology of restoration for all of humanity without constraint of gender.
