Hennes vänskap med den finska flickan Beata som kommit till orten som flykting undan kriget och som gifter sig med en svensk smed. Familjen Artedi drabbas av stor sorg när brodern Peter plötsligt omkommer. Carl Linneaus besök i Nordmaling och Umeå skildras. Anna Maria gifter sig som ung med handelsmannen Per Bjur från Umeå och får två döttrar. Ett stort glädjeämne är ena dotterns bröllop. Sorgligt nog dör den andra dottern strax därefter.
