Kaleidoscope Catechesis is both a rhetorical and a pastoral effort to communicate the Gospel message cross-culturally, particularly in Africa. It analyzes the rhetorical dynamics of cross-cultural communication within the specific context of missionary catechesis in the Diocese of Wa in Ghana, and offers concrete pastoral communication strategies to be used for effective catechesis and evangelization. This book will appeal to a wide variety of people: seminarians in Africa, priests, pastoral workers, students of rhetoric and cross-cultural communication.
Rhetoric prepares the ground for action. It is essential to social change and social stability. Hence the essays in this book will introduce the reader to the cultural narratives of the Dagaaba of Ghana and show how community beliefs and values are enacted in ritual celebrations, as well as in advocacy campaigns and social movements. Critical Essays on Dagaaba Rhetoric is a pioneering effort in expanding the scope of rhetoric beyond the mainstream of the discipline. As an entry point into Dagaaba rhetoric, this book will be a stimulus for further research on Dagaaba rhetoric.
This is a general survey of Ghana and its people. Subjects covered include the country's regions and their people; Ghana's identity as a nation and how it faced challenges to national unity during the struggle for independence; the nature of the post-colonial state; the asymmetrical relationship between the north and the south rooted in the colonial era, a structural imbalance which continues to have a negative impact on the wellbeing of northerners and which could perpetuate inequalities between the two parts of the country; Ghana's place in the Pan-African world because of the leadership provided by the country's first prime minister – later president – Kwame Nkrumah; and its success i...
Today, students are more familiar with other cultures than ever before because of the media, Internet, local diversity, and their own travels abroad. Using a social constructionist framework--which explores how culture is constructed and produced in the moments in which it is experienced--Inter/Cultural Communication provides today′s students with a rich understanding of how culture and communication affect and effect each other. Inter/Cultural Communication improves upon current textbooks in four sig...
A Companion to African Rhetoric, edited by Segun Ige, Gilbert Motsaathebe, and Omedi Ochieng, presents the reader with different perspectives on African rhetoric mostly from Anglophone sub-Saharan Africa and the Diaspora. The African, Afro-Caribbean, and African American rhetorician contributors conceptualize African rhetoric, examine African political rhetoric, analyze African rhetoric in literature, and address the connection between rhetoric and religion in Africa. They argue for a holistic view of rhetoric on the continent.

Mission, Communion and Relationship addresses the urgent need for the churches in Africa to positively respond to the crisis confronting the continent's young men. It calls for the church to commit itself to providing alternatives to the various crises confronting male youths in Africa (dislocation, illiteracy, streetism, unemployment, emigration, crime, imitation of foreign cultures, consumerism, drug abuse, promiscuity and HIV/AIDS). Mission, Communion and Relationship argues that communion and solidarity with male youths is a missiological imperative of the Roman Catholic Church in Africa, which must work in concert with other Christian denominations, as well as Muslim and African Traditional Religion leaders. This interdisciplinary book brings together insights from ecclesiology, church history, theological anthropology and the social sciences as well as African and Western philosophy with concrete ecclesial and human experiences. Mission, Communion and Relationship sets forth a framework for dealing with the cultural formation and religious development of male youths in ways that are authentically African and Christian, socially oriented and pastorally engaged.
