El valor y los sueños. Poemas escogidos (1970-2016) es una antología de la obra de Luis Alberto de Cuenca, pero no es una antología más. Tras una introducción general a su poesía, brinda al lector un completo recorrido de más de 150 poemas por los libros «oficiales» del poeta –teniendo en cuenta títulos habitualmente orillados como Los retratos o La mujer y el vampiro– y, además, añade una veintena de textos poco conocidos o inéditos, nunca recopilados en ninguno de sus libros al uso, y otra veintena de traducciones del poeta, tratando con ello de ofrecer la imagen más completa y, a la vez, novedosa de la poesía de Luis Alberto de Cuenca. Así, este libro, al cuidado del filólogo y poeta Rodrigo Olay, satisfará tanto a quienes aún no conocen a su autor como a los lectores que han venido acompañándolo a lo largo del tiempo.
Paul Lafargue and the Flowering of French Socialism, 1882-1911
Paul Lafargue, the disciple and son-in-law of Karl Marx, helped to found the first French Marxist party in 1882. Over the next three decades, he served as the chief theoretician and propagandist for Marxism in France. During these years - which ended with the dramatic suicides of Lafargue and his wife - French socialism, and the Marxist party within it, became a significant political force. Leslie Derfler explores Lafargue's political strategies, specifically his break with party co-founder Jules Guesde in the Boulanger and Dreyfus episodes and over the question of socialist syndicalist relations. Derfler shows Lafargue's importance as both political activist and theorist. He describes Lafargue's role in the formulation of such strategies as the promotion of a Second Workingmen's International, the pursuit of reform within the framework of the existent state but opposition to any socialist participation in nonsocialist governments, and the subordination of trade unionism to political action. He emphasizes Lafargue's pioneering efforts to apply Marxist methods of analysis to questions of anthropology, aesthetics, and literary criticism.
Georges Sorel’s Study on Vico
Georges Sorel’s Study on Vico is a revelatory document of the depths and stakes of French social thought at the end of the 19th century. What brought Sorel to the 18th century Neapolitan theorist of history? Acute awareness of the limitations of Marxist thought in his day, a profound concern with the material underpinnings of language, law, and culture, and the imperative to understand the possibilities of revolutionary change. We find here a different Sorel, one who speaks in surprising ways to the 21st century. The translation is accompanied by an introduction and by a set of notes which situate the text both in Sorel’s overall intellectual trajectory and in the fin de siècle debates from which it emerged.
