Jason Benjamin
Jason Benjamin is a young Australian painter whose career as an artist began in the US after studies at the Pratt Institute in New York. Since then, from his Sydney base, he has exhibited widely throughout Australia and has been a regular contributor to the Archibald Prize. His international career begins this year with and exhibition in Rome. Benjamin's subjects are drawn from those around him and the environment in which he dwells. While his paintings are loaded with atmousphere and are evocative of the emotions felt in the presence of his subjects, the paintings conform to long-held traditions in western art. They are - in the final instance - landscapes, still-lifes and portraits. These are moody paintings, aptly titles and certain to draw empathetic responces from those who view them.
Robert Hannaford
Robert Hannaford is one of Australia's foremost portrait artists, but this is only one aspect of his work. ROBERT HANNAFORD: NATURAL EYE, the first book to be published on this acclaimed artist, reveals a richer, fuller story: of an artist who deliberately places representation over abstraction, producing art that celebrates the visual world in all its variety while interrogating its place in the human imagination. Grace Crowley’s Contribution to Australian Modernism and Geometric Abstraction
Grace Crowley has been recognized as a product of European modernism and was one of the leading innovators of geometric abstraction in Australia. Having studied in Paris in the 1920s with one of the leading art teachers, writers and theorists, André Lhote, she returned to Australia having mastered the complex mathematics and geometry of the golden section and dynamic symmetry, that had become a framework for modernism.
