Summary Primarily, I regard it as obvious that according to the law, Vessby is biased regarding Annika Dahlqvist's dietary advice. His investigation is completely uncalled for, as her advice is completely in agreement with science and proven experience. Furthermore, I would insist that dietary advice to sick patients must be seen as the responsibility and duty of the physician, and shall be given according to science and proven experience, even if it is delegated to dietitians. The National Board of Health and Welfare must also act immediately to ensure that, as opposed to current policy, dietary advice to diabetics from both doctors and dietitians can once again be based on science and prov...
In his book Research abuse – how the food and drug industries pull the wool over your eyes, Ralf Sundberg discusses questions regarding research in Nutrition, from a biological, social and economic perspective. Today, we understand that nutrition is not firstly to provide fuel, but more importantly to provide building blocks for the renewal of our cells and tissues. But nutritional science has from the fifties and on, been surrounded by myths and misinterpretations of the prevalent data. Policies and recommendations were formed in the absence of evidence, often by experts tied to commercial and political interests. In this book Dr Sundberg uses the examples of fat and cholesterol, not only...
You hear miraculous stories in the news all the time—a man loses 370 pounds, another is able to return ten of his twelve medications at the pharmacy, and an epileptic child suddenly stops having seizures—each experiences a miraculous change in health, all from simply changing his or her diet. Fascinatingly, these stories all have one thing in common; the subjects started eating the opposite of what they had previously been told was healthy. The dietary guidelines they had learned growing up had failed them. Medical science has long turned a blind eye to such stories. But now the tide is changing, as more and more major studies are being conducted on what the body truly needs to surviveâ€...
During the past three decades, East Asia has been more peaceful than Europe, the Americas or any continent, in terms of battle deaths per capita. When generating theories on peace and war, studies almost never look at the experiences of East Asia. Since East Asia is a spectacular case of pacification, and since it has not contributed much to our theories of peace and conflict, The Long Peace of East Asia is an important book for studies on peace and war.

Neste primeiro capÃtulo do trabalho 'div...
This book explores the concept of academic freedom from a European vantage point. Drawing on both philosophical and legal perspectives, the editors and contributors analyse the concept of academic freedom within the present institutional setting. Academic freedom has long been considered a natural part of higher education, but as the world enters the digital age, a renewed understanding of its role and the threats it must face is required. The authors question the purpose of science without freedom, and subsequently the purpose of political communities without free science. Although the book uses European case studies to answer these questions, it undoubtedly has global relevance: what would be left of the present notion of the ‘global world’ were we to conceive of its character without modern science? This book calls for a critical re-examination of the academic community and its own understanding of the sources, conditions and aims of scientific practice.
Drawing upon the sciences of acoustics, linguistics, and physiology, D. Ralph Appelman advances a system of teaching voice based on the International Phonetic Alphabet. His premises are that vocal pedagogy requires an understanding of physiological and physical processes; that the singer and the voice teacher need pedagogical tools to link this scientific knowledge with the art of vocalization; that the word in the art song provides such a tool, for it conveys the primary meaning of the utterance; that the art song, therefore, demands intelligibility as well as beauty; and that if the art song is to attain the aesthetic level demanded by the music and the text, the singer must master a refined and orderly vocal system. Liberally illustrated with photographs, x-rays, spectrograms, palatograms, charts, drill materials, and drawings, this text develops the total process of disciplined vocal utterance, progressing from the physiological aspects of phonation to the elements of aesthetic interpretation and the art of combining the two in song.
