Experts from academia, the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries introduce biological, medical and methodological aspects of the emerging field of epigenomics.
Studies have shown that alterations of epigenetics and microRNAs (miRNAs) play critical roles in the initiation and progression of human cancer. Epigenetic silencing of tumor suppressor genes in cancer cells is generally mediated by DNA hypermethylation of CpG island promoter and histone modification such as methylation of histone H3 lysine 9 (H3K9) and tri-methylation of H3K27. MiRNAs are small non-coding RNAs that regulate expression of various target genes. Specific miRNAs are aberrantly expressed and play roles as tumor suppressors or oncogenes during carcinogenesis. Important tumor suppressor miRNAs are silenced by epigenetic alterations, resulting in activation of target oncogenes in h...

Turquoise has been mined on six continents and traded by cultures throughout the world's history, including the Europeans, Chinese, Mayan, Aztec, Inca, and Southwest Native Americans. It has been set in silver and gold jewelry, cut and shaped into fetish animals, and even formed to represent gods in many religions. This gemstone is displayed in museums around the world, representing the arts and traditions of prehistoric, historic, and modern societies. Turquoise focuses on the latest information in science and art from the greatest turquoise collections around the globe.
This book synthesizes the flourishing field of anthropology of infectious disease in a critical, biocultural framework, advancing research in this multifaceted area and offering an ideal supplemental text.
This volume provides essential and fundamental protocols on manipulation chromosome. Chapters details methods on the preparation of mitotic chromosome, chromosome aberration, micronucleus (MN), comet assay, karyotyping, Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), premature chromosome condensation (PCC), immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining, new generation sequencing technology and new chromosome concepts, such as epigenetic and its cause of cancer are presented. Written in the format of the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, each chapter includes an introduction to the topic, lists necessary materials and reagents, includes tips on troubleshooting and known pitfalls, and step-by-step, readily reproducible protocols. Authoritative and cutting-edge, Chromosome Analysis: Methods and Protocols aims to be a useful and practical guide to new researchers and experts looking to expand their knowledge.
