General description of the collection: The Harold B. Darby papers include a completed World War II Veterans Survey questionnaire which traces Darby's military service and postwar activities and comments on various aspects of military life. He tells of training in artillery and medium tank operations, and served as a forward observer for the 67th Field Artillery Battalion. He comments that weapons, equipment, clothing, rations, and supply services were all good. Recreation activities were scarce in combat as they had no extra time. He notes that military-civilian relations were very good. He considerd his unit to be excellent due to good leadership and individual courage. He rates the Allied and the German soldiers as very good and well-trained.
