The Sacred Writings of Saint Barnabas

The Epistle of Barnabas contains no clue to its author nor to those for whom it was intended. Its aim is to impart to its readers the perfect wisdom (gnosis), that is an exact knowledge of the economy of salvation. It is made up of two parts, the subject of each being announced in verses 6 and 7 of the first chapter. The first part (ch. i-v, 4) is hortatory; in the evil days that are now at hand in which the end of the world and the Judgment shall appear, the faithful, freed from the bonds of the Jewish ceremonial law, are to practise the virtues and to flee from sin. The second part (ch. v, 5-xvii) is more speculative, although it tends, owing to the nature of the argument, to establish the...

Barnabas was born in Cyprus. His original name was Josses or Joseph. He was a close companion of Jesus. Because of his devotion and loyalty to Jesus, other apostles surnamed him 'Barnabas' which means 'Son of Encouragement' (Acts 4:36-37). He traveled with Jesus and wrote down what Jesus had said. The Bible refers to him as "an apostle" (Acts 14:14), and "a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith" (Acts 11:24). It also says: "if he comes to you, receive him" (Colossians 4:10). After Jesus had left this world, many people wrote about his life and teachings. They are known as Gospels. Over one hundred gospels were written. The author of one of the Gospels was Apostle Barnabas. The Gospe...

We Also Served

A social history of British women’s brave yet forgotten service during WWI from a historian of female wartime experiences—includes photos. At the outbreak of World War I, women looking to contribute to the Allied effort were told by the war office to “go home and sit still.” Thankfully, hundreds of thousands of women from all corners of society ignored that advice and lent their collective strength to the cause. In We Also Served, Vivien Newman digs beneath the myths surrounding women’s war efforts to reveal stories of determination and heroism. Becoming nurses, munitions workers, members of the Land Army, ambulance drivers, and surgeons, women stepped readily into a world normally occupied by men. Some served with the Armed Forces, others funded and managed their own hospitals within sight and sound of the guns. At least one British woman bore arms, and over a thousand women lost their lives as a direct result of their involvement with the war. This profoundly important history by an expert in female wartime experiences lets these all but forgotten voices finally be heard. “A short book rich in facts and personal testimonies.” —Historical Novel Society

Climate Change, Intercropping, Pest Control and Beneficial Microorganisms

Sustainable agriculture is a rapidly growing field aiming at producing food and energy in a sustainable way for humans and their children. Sustainable agriculture is a discipline that addresses current issues such as climate change, increasing food and fuel prices, poor-nation starvation, rich-nation obesity, water pollution, soil erosion, fertility loss, pest control, and biodiversity depletion. Novel, environmentally-friendly solutions are proposed based on integrated knowledge from sciences as diverse as agronomy, soil science, molecular biology, chemistry, toxicology, ecology, economy, and social sciences. Indeed, sustainable agriculture decipher mechanisms of processes that occur from t...
