An oral history of blues legend Benny Turner, from his birth and early childhood in Gilmer, TX to the family's move to Chicago, IL and the ultimate birth of his career in the gospel, R&B and blues genres. Surviving extreme poverty in East Texas followed by the shocking transition to urban life in Chicago and then the untimely death of his big brother, bandmate and best friend Freddie King, that is only a portion of the obstacles Benny has survived. This story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and Benny's personal and professional triumphs along the way.
After her last relationship ends in disaster, travel nurse Sarah Drexel takes a job on the reservation, believing it far enough away from civilization for anyone to recognize her. But all that changes when environmental protection specialist Benny Turner walks into her clinic. He used to be her best friend until the night she told him her deepest darkest secrets and everything changed between them. But Sarah's not the only one with something to hide. For Benny, being half-Navajo means straddling two worlds. It means never quite belonging to either one without having to constantly prove himself. But just when he decides to settle down on the reservation for good, Benny runs into the only woman he's always wanted but convinced himself he could never have. Until now. Duty or love? Which one will he choose?*

Australia. The Outback. It was a cracked, red land. A cruel land, where tusked predator and prey locked in a cycle that predated man. It was in that land that the American conservationist, Beth Taylor, vanished. And where her husband must go to avenge her, to find the men who killed her, discover the way she was killed—and ultimately to learn the primitive ways of the razorback, the cruelest predator of all. Only then would he know who. And how. And why. If he survived….
This in-depth study of two black neighborhoods in the wake of Hurricane Katrina vividly captures the struggle and uncertainty in the process of rebuilding. Hurricane Katrina was the worst urban flood in American history, a disaster that destroyed nearly the entire physical landscape of a city, as well as the mental and emotional maps that people use to navigate their everyday lives. Left to Chance takes us into two African American neighborhoods—working-class Hollygrove and middle-class Pontchartrain Park—to learn how their residents have experienced “Miss Katrina” and the long road back to normal life. The authors spent several years gathering firsthand accounts of the flooding, the...

After ""Reflections On A Moon,"" my meanderings took me to a long stay in Arizona, another trip to see family and friends in Texas a few weeks later, and to a new apartment after packing up 30-plus years of memories and selling the house. So, the journey continued, and in ""Musings and Reflections,"" I share the interpretations of what I saw and heard and felt on that path. Many good people of soul have impressed me when their journeys have intersected with mine. Plus, many great minds have inspired me with their words passed forward through time, and some are quoted here in what would have been empty white spaces. There is so much beauty out there to be seen, felt, and expressed... from a tear to a laugh; from a loss to a light; from a river to a mountain; from a speck of sand to a star; and all the moons and moods between... the best and the worst are all beauteous when accepted as part of the whole fabric of Life.
