Pharmaceutical Test Data Exclusivity

  • Categories: Law

Data exclusivity gives pharmaceutical companies a limited period of time in which clinical test data are exclusive to the innovator. Internationally, however, aside from prohibition against unfair commercial use, there are no specifics as to how these data are protected; exclusivity is available on a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction basis. This book, the only one of its kind, provides expert guidance, chapter by chapter, on test data exclusivity rights for pharmaceutical products in twenty-two major markets worldwide. For each jurisdiction, in addition to explaining the available regulatory data protection – including both substantive and formal requirements for approvals and testing, protecti...

  • Categories: Law

Artificial Intelligence (‘AI’) and the AI sub-field of Machine Learning (‘ML’) are terms that originated in the fields of computer and data science but now form part of the common vernacular. AI has now found application in virtually every field. Some applications of AI have become part of our daily lives: virtual assistants, chatbots, search engines, online language translation and eCommerce all employ AI in various forms. Generative AI such as OpenAI’s products ChatGPT (natural language generation), Jukebox (music generation) and DALL-E2 (image generation) have captured the public attention to an enormous degree and can, indeed, do amazing things. A myriad of other applications o...

Biomimetic Membranes for Sensor and Separation Applications

This book addresses the possibilities and challenges in mimicking biological membranes and creating membrane-based sensor and separation devices. Recent advances in developing biomimetic membranes for technological applications will be presented with focus on the use of integral membrane protein mediated transport for sensing and separation. It describes the fundamentals of biosensing as well as separation and shows how the two processes are working in a cooperative manner in biological systems. The compact myelin sheath formed around nerve axons speeds up nerve conduction and also nurtures the axon. Destruction of this sheath in demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS) results in nerve conduction failure and neurodegeneration. Myelin basic protein (MBP) is the second most abundant protein of central nervous system (CNS) myelin (after the proteolipid protein), representing about 30 % of the total myelin protein and about 10 % of myelin by weight. It is also present in peripheral nervous system (PNS) myelin but as a lower percentage of the total protein. This book addresses the issue of Myelin and the way it binds to negatively-charged lipids on the cytosolic surfaces of the processes and is responsible for adhesion of these surfaces of myelin in the CNS, thus forming the major dense line observed by electron microscopy.
