The Broughs of Staffordshire, England descend from Thomas Burgh (ca. 1480-ca. 1551); later generations changed the name to Brough. There are English, Australian, and U.S. branches of the family. The United States Broughs trace their ancestry to Richard Brough, who married Mary Horleston in 1825 in the parish of Stoke-upon-Trent, Staffordshire; they joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints in 1840. Three of their 11 children also joined the LDS Church and immigrated to the United States.
