This collection celebrates the 150th anniversary of Fechner's book on Psychophysics (originally published ten years after his epiphany of Oct. 22, 1850). Topics include modern assessments of the problems with which Fechner wrestled. Also included are more general discussions of psychophysical methodology, psychophysical theory, and how these two things can be useful in areas not normally associated with psychophysics. Furthermore, these works provide an entrée into Fechner’s ideas, which is perhaps more accessible than his seminal work itself.

A lost classic found, a guidebook for life's biggest adventure--death! If so, what form might it take? First written and published in a time when traditional understanding of God and nature were undergoing a huge transformation, Fechner's reasonable, accessible, and groundbreaking book became a manual for living well and dying as part of life. Fechner explains that death is another form of birth. That just as you cannot remember the time in the womb and the painful birthing process, so too will you...

Gustav Theodor Fechner (1801-1887) was an early pioneer in experimental psychology, founder of psychophysics, and introduced the median into the formal analysis of data. The still-mysterious perceptual illusion where colors are seen in a moving pattern of black and white is still called the Fechner color effect. This "Little Book of Life After Death" tells us "that even though we do nothing wicked, we may neglect to do anything immortal, and therefore our future prospects are as trivial as our performance now or in the past. We shall deserve to be forgotten."
