Diabetic foot is a serious complication of diabetes worldwide. The etiology of diabetic foot is quite complex due to its multifactorial nature. Diabetic neuropathy, peripheral artery disease, foot deformity, high blood glucose and secondary infection all can contribute to diabetic foot ulceration and gangrene, sometimes resulting in minor or major amputations. Several risk factors including old age, long-term diabetes, smoking, foot deformity, and ischemia have been identified in diabetic foot. Many diagnostic methods are used for early-stage diabetic neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease, such as pulse wave, ankle-brachial artery ratio, Sudoscan, gait analysis, etc. Due to the high glucose environment, metabolic disorder, ischemia and peripheral neuropathy, diabetic foot ulcer is much more difficult to heal than common traumatic wounds. Therefore, in addition to existing treatments, new methods or techniques are still needed to improve wound healing. We also expect to find novel pathways to elucidate the complicated mechanisms involved in diabetic foot and diabetic wound healing.

This acknowledgement of their dramatic origins has often led to criticism that these movies remain too rigidly anchored to the stage; too "stage-bound." Stage-Bound, the first extensive study of feature film adaptations of English Canadian and Québécois drama, challenges this reductive interpretation. André Loiselle demonstrates that theatricality is central to the meaning of these works. In the process, he reclaims these stage-bound films, which have generally been ignored by scholars.

When a beanstalk starts growing out of the rubble of the World Trade Center, chaos erupts in New York City. Jack Tott, a twenty-six-year-old musician, believes that if he climbs the beanstalk, he will somehow find the means to help save his dying sister. Caitlin Bingham, an archaeoastronomer, suspects that the beanstalk is related to the mysterious disappearance of Pachakutek, a planet she recently discovered. But the lands and inhabitants in the world above the beanstalk are beyond anything Jack or Caitlin could have imagined. A strange cave, a huge thorn maze, a dapper five-foot-tall mosquito, a paranoid bird who is the last of his species, and an ancient Incan civilization are just part of the adventure that awaits Jack and Caitlin. With a lightning-quick pace and basis in real events of the twenty-first century, The Ascendancy offers hope and a new mythology for the world at this volatile point in our history.
The enthusiastic feedback received from readers of the international bestseller Schein's Common Sense Emergency Abdominal Surgery (now in its 3rd edition, translated to seven languages; Springer Verlag; ISBN 9783540748205) inspired the editors to do a similar book dedicated to surgical complications: practical, non-formal, internationally relevant (in all types of practice and levels of hospitals) – and definitely not politically correct: what is considered taboo by others is not taboo for us; here we discuss everything! As in the editors’ previous book, the use of references is restricted to the absolute minimum, and citing figures and percentages is avoided as much as possible. The cha...
