GERN (Groupement Européen de Recherches sur les Normativités) is a large consortium of scientific researchers in the domain of deviance and social control, more precisely studying delinquency, penal institutions, public policies of security and the importance of penal questions in society. This book explores the subject of research misconduct: its definition, what behaviours should fall under its label, and the types of preventive and repressive procedures that should be put to practice to combat it. Adopting a criminological perspective, Faria views research misconduct as a locus of analysis for corporate and white-collar crime. Based upon an empirical study involving in-depth interviews and documentary analysis, this original research offers an interesting approach to an age-old problem which is growing ever more important. The commodification of research – together with perceived risks of research misconduct – is opening the way to ambiguous and ineffective forms of soc...
This penetrating study of the violence associated with juvenile leisure activities combines research from six European countries--Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom--to gain insight into the cause of the violence and to formulate effective strategies for solving the growing problem. Separate diagnoses made by the different investigative groups serve to enrich and complement each other, providing a more complete image of the factors involved in conflicts occurring in these contexts as well as supplying the appropriate preventative measures. This study brings a new understanding to the underlying causes of the violence, and presents an eye-opening look at the problems faced by today's youth culture.
This book presents the results of the latest in a long-running research project using the RIMES instrument, developed by scholars in Spain. Divided into two parts, the first provides a general overview of the RIMES instrument, including a discussion of the theoretical model and the methodology. The second part focuses on the results of the application of RIMES in the seven jurisdictions. The compar...
In this strikingly new treatment of issues in psychotherapy, Lynn Simek-Downing compiles the work of scholars from around the world to gain a cross cultural perspective of the therapeutic process. The contributors of International Psychotherapy examine the cross cultural implications of ethics, research and the theories and practice of psychotherapy. They conclude that although the practice of and research in psychotherapy generally follow the same patterns across all cultures, the aims, goals and content of the psychotherapeutic process vary widely among cultures. This book, serving as a positive augmentation to prevalent theories of psychotherapy, is ideal for students, scholars, professor...
This compilation represents the first study to examine the historical evolution and shifting global dynamics of policing across the Lusophone community. With contributions from a multi-disciplinary range of experts, it traces the role of policing within and across settings that are connected by the shared legacy of Portuguese colonialism. Previously neglected within studies of the globalisation of policing, the Lusophone experience brings novel insights to established analyses of colonial, post-colonial and transnational policing. This compilation draws research attention to the policing peculiarities of the Lusophone community. It proposes new cultural settings within which to test dominant...
