A complete environmental study of the area for Project Chariot, Plowshare Program. Covers physical and bioenvironmental aspects of the land, the coast, the Chukchi sea; the people, radioactivity in the area.
This book is a complete environmental study of the land and sea where Project Chariot was planned--a proposed project to excavate an experimental harbor that fell under the Plowshare Program established by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. One of many reports written in preparation for that program, it describes the people, radioactivity, and the physical and bioenvironmental aspects of the land and the coast in northwestern Alaska, but it focuses on the area of the proposed project area, which centers on the Ogotoruk Valley and the adjacent Chukchi Sea. Its 42 chapters were written by authors at government agencies, universities, and government contractors.
A detailed assessment of environmental impacts associated with the establishment of the proposed arctic range and its management. Includes an inventory of the resources of the area.
