The Art of Copying Art
This book is a study of the history, role and significance of copying art. Copies have enjoyed a different status from authentic artworks and though often acknowledged, very rarely have they been considered collectively as a genre in their own right. This volume showcases a variety of examples—from copies of famous artworks made and used as props in movies to those made innocently by student artists as part of their training. Examining the motivations for making copies, and reflecting on the reception of copies, is central to this book. Copies have historically filled voids in collections, where some sadly languish, and have become a curatorial burden. In other cases, having a copy assists in conservation projects and fills the place of a lost work. Ultimately by interrogating a copy’s role and intent we might ask ourselves if viewing a copy changes our experience and perception of an artwork.

The antebellum culture of Harrison County (birthplace of George Armstrong Custer) and the surrounding five-county area of Appalachian east Ohio was an outspoken, democratic society--and a way station of the Underground Railroad for escaping slaves. With the coming of the Civil War, this community faced momentous change and bitter divisions. This narrative history provides a portrait of the area and the ways in which the war affected everyone. Portions of letters and diaries from the soldiers and those who loved them, illustrations and maps are included.
Tennessee Records
An encyclopedia of Tennessee genealogy, Acklen's "Bible Records and Marriage Bonds" is one of the foremost Tennessee source-books in print. It consists almost entirely of records of births, marriages, and deaths, plus marriage licenses of Dickson, Knox, Lebanon, and Wilson counties. Sections devoted exclusively to marriages generally run chronologically, giving exact dates and full names of brides and grooms. The bible records, however, offer the most substantial evidence of family connections and, in the manner of such records, are actually organic family records listing names and dates of birth, marriage, and death through several generations, depending, of course, on the extent to which a particular bible was handed on in the family and kept up to date. The work is complemented by a surname index of nearly 15,000 entries.
