First Steps In Clinical Supervision: A Guide For Healthcare Professionals

"This book is an essential read for those new to the role of becoming a clinical supervisor. It is packed with practical ideas and activities to try out in the supervision situation and underpinned by relevant theory. An obvious strength of the book is the way Paul seems to 'talk' to the new supervisor in an engaging and non patronising way. At last there is acknowledgement of the 'emotional labour' of being engaged in supervisory work offering strategies to 'look after oneself' when acting as a clinical supervisor in practice." John Driscoll, Freelance CPD Consultant & Development Coach This practical book is designed as a toolkit for anyone starting out as a clinical supervisor. The book f...

The Letters of Paul as Rituals of Worship

This book focuses on worship in the letters of Paul in an effort to shed some light upon this key theme and bring the various dimensions of its significance into the foreground of Pauline studies. Each of the thirteen New Testament letters attributed to Paul are treated exclusively from the aspect of worship, as understood in its most comprehensive sense in the biblical tradition, with the liturgical and the ethical facets of worship held in dynamic interrelationship. The result is a fresh way of reading and listening to the letters of Paul for a deeper appreciation of their original purpose and message.

Paul Among the Postliberals

"This book is changing my mind on more themes...than any publication since Hans Frei's The Eclipse of Biblical Narrative." -George LIndbeck, Yale University "Harink brings several postliberal theologians - mainly Yoder and Hauerwas - into genuine conversation with the church's original apocalyptic theologian, the Apostle Paul. The engaging result is a call for the church to return to its true vocation as an uncompromising critic of the state's omnivorous appetite for our loayalties. But that is the vocation found in the politics of the cross, in which the suffering and victorious God has redemptively invaded the captive world, thus calling into being the community that Paul speaks of as 'the...

While recent publications have explored the relationship between New Testament texts and early Roman imperial ideology, Ephesians has been underanalyzed in these conversations. In this study, Justin Winzenburg provides an original contribution to the field by assessing how matters of the disputed authorship, audience, and date of Ephesians have varied consequences for the imperial-critical status of the epistle. Previously underexplored elements of the Roman context of Ephesians, with a focus on maiestas [treason] charges, imperial cults, and Roman imperial eschatology are examined in light of the two major theories of the date of the epistle. The author concludes that, while there are limitations to an imperial-critical reading of the epistle, some of the epistle's speech acts can be understood as subversive of Roman imperial ideology.

St. Paul, the Natural Law, and Contemporary Legal Theory

  • Categories: Law

The editors of this unique collection of essays exploring the relationship of St. Paul and the natural law bring together contributions by scripture scholars, theologians, philosophers, and international lawyers. Inspired by the special Jubilee Year from June 2008 to June 2009 - proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI to celebrate the 2,000-year anniversary of the birth of St. Paul - the chapters in this book are the fruit of the contributors' collaboration during the celebration of the Year of St. Paul. They share a common appreciation of the natural law as a basis for civil law and contemporary legal theory, and each chapter examines the foundations of the natural law - particularly in the writings of St. Paul - giving special recognition to the Catholic contributions to natural law and contemporary legal theory.
