In order to prepare the next generation for the future, a functional understanding of education is no longer enough. For personal development, literature teaching today must convey competence-oriented knowledge. At the same time, we must ask what sort of lives we are to lead. The threats to the planet earth brought about by progressive environmental destruction have already taken on global proportions. The present volume is addressed to students and teachers of German at all levels and for every school type who are interested in literature and would like to acquaint themselves with the diversity of the cultural ecological approach to literature. The contributions provide teaching concepts for preparing interesting lessons that will inspire children and young people and help broaden their perception of the world.

John Carradine
Over more than six decades and 200 films, supreme movie villain John Carradine defined the job of the character actor, running the gamut from preacher Casey of The Grapes of Wrath to his classic Count Dracula of House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula. But for every Prisoner of Shark Island or Jesse James, Carradine--who also did great work on Broadway and the classical theater (he produced, directed and starred in Hamlet)--hammed it up in scores of "B" and "C" horror and exploitation films, developing the while quite a reputation for scandal. Through it all, though, he remained a survivor and a true professional. This is the first ever work devoted exclusively to the films of John Carradine. In addition to the comprehensive filmography, there is a biography of Carradine (contributed by Gregory Mank), commentary on the man by indie film director Fred Olen Ray (who helmed many latter-day Carradine movies), and an interesting piece by director Joe Dante, who writes about Carradine's involvement in Dante's 1981 werewolf movie The Howling.

The Hitler Filmography
From the time his Nazi regime launched World War II to the present, Adolf Hitler has frequently been depicted on film. He was largely ridiculed at first, since laughter was a powerful weapon and morale booster for nations at war. Later representations were more somber and realistic, yet Hitler's image never escaped the undertone of scorn. This book concentrates exclusively on portrayals of Hitler in feature films and television miniseries. The filmography covers films with a factual historical storyline, fictional stories, alternate histories, parodies and films where actors playing Hitler have a cameo. Charles Bronson

He will long be remembered for his role as urban vigilante Paul Kersey in the Death Wish films. Bronson is one of the most enigmatic, and also most recognizable, of all film stars.
White Zombie
The 1932 horror film White Zombie starring Bela Lugosi has received controversial attention from film reviewers and scholars--but it is unarguably a cult classic worthy of study. This book analyzes the film text from nearly every possible viewpoint, using both academic and popular film theories.
