The authors of this volume push ethnographic inquiry beyond the anthropocentric documentation of human work on nature in order to develop a language for thinking about how all labor is a collective ecological act.

The Circuit of Detachment in Chile
This Element discusses the consequences on the social bond of the conjoint action of the economic and social model inspired by the premises of neoliberalism and of the powerful pressures for the democratization of social relations in Chilean society. It is based upon empirical research developed in the past fifteen years. The main argument in this Element is that these processes have had as one of its most important effects the generation of a circuit of detachment, that is, a process that leads to different forms of disidentification and distancing from logics and principles that govern social relations and interaction. It is a dynamic circuit consisting of four components: excess, disenchantment, irritation, and, finally, detachment. The Element analyzes this circuit and each of its components as well as its consequences for the social bond. It also includes a brief reflection on the impact of this circuit over the political bond.
The Tablas of Sarhua
Papers included in this volume attempt at presenting two different but complementary approaches to the contemporary Andean culture through the works of their artists. The authors have focused their analyses on the Sarhua’s paintings known as «tablas», one of the few pictorial manifestations of contemporary Peruvian indigenous culture. The paintings of Sarhua have been the focus of previous studies by Lemlij and Millones. A huge manuscript on the theme by Millones was distinguished with the Spanish and Ibero-American Craftmanship Research Award organized in Tenerife. In turn, Lemlij presented a preliminary version of the text included in this volume at Harvard University, where he was invited as lecturer. The interpretative perspectives provided by the above-mentioned authors give different, but complementary, angles to approach Peruvian popular art.

Post-Western Sociology - From China to Europe
This book is rooted in an epistemological approach to sociology in which the boundaries between Western and non-Western sociologies are acknowledged and built on. It argues that knowledge is organised in conceptual spaces linked to paradigms and programmes which in turn are linked to ethnocentred knowledge processes; that until recently Western approaches, including Post-Colonial, French Social Science and American approaches, have dominated non-Western theories; and that Western theories have sometimes seemed incapable of explaining phenomena produced in other societies. It goes on to argue that the blurring of boundaries between Western and non-Western sociologies is very important; and that such a Post-Western approach will mean co-production and co-construction of common knowledge, the recognition of ignored or forgotten scientific cultures and a "global change" in sociology which imposes theoretical and methodological detours, displacements, reversals and conversions. The book brings together a wide range of Western and Chinese sociologists who explore the consequences of this new approach in relation to many different issues and aspects of sociology.
